this case is REALLY shytty. In a nutshell, Rosemary Lehmberg is the head of a unit called The Texas Public Integrity Unit...one of the things they investigate is government corruption...something that Perry's name comes up in a lot...Rosemary got drunk one night, got pulled over, and Perry tried to force her to resign buy vetoing anything that would give her unit funding...which is pretty much an abuse of power as Governor...which is what he is being indicted on...
As far as going to jail...I guess it all depends on when this get's wrapped up...his last day in office is sometime in January...he gets everything wrapped up and fades to the background...no one will care...but come next presidential election...if he hasn't faded to the background...I think it is very possible he goes to jail if for no other reason that someone...either republican or democrat...will want to start the ball rolling for their presidential campaign as "the person who tossed the longest tenured texas governor in jail for abuse of power"
I'd say the second one is highly unlikely...but..even with this...Perry thinks he has a real shot at being president...which, when the last thing you did was get indicted...isn't going to happen
perry dont e'en know what all dat time meanno, no they don'tthis case is REALLY shytty.
Even people who hate perry think these charges are bogus

I was listening to bloomberg law's podcast yesterday. Even democratic defense lawyers can't bring themselves to get mad at the governor here. Its sheer politicsno, no they don't
DUIs have always been a lax thing in American politics. Ted Kennedy killed a woman while drunk driving and was almost President. George Bush was President and did it, as was dikk Cheney (well, Vice President). There have been around 45 other politicians arrested for drunk driving in the last decade (or close to that). Even though it shows a brazen lack of concern for other people's lives, politicians continue to drink and drive. Rick Perry was right to try and get her fired, but he was corrupt to begin with so his indictment is justified.
edit: honestly this comment put it a lil more in perspective for me
When the State's head of the Public Integrity Unit gets busted for a DUI they should resign. That's kind of the whole PUBLIC INTEGRITY thingy. Good for Perry. Guess her cushy job is more important to her than Public Integrity. What ever happened to the days when if you royally f'ed up and EVERYBODY knew it you'd take responsibility and face the consequences? Seems very rare these days.

Perry said he lost confidence in a prosector that showed her ass and threatened to defund her. That shyt happens all the time.
