Elementary School Lunch Ladies Fired After Pocketing Leftovers

Two Texas lunch ladies are out of work after taking home leftovers from an elementary school cafeteria in Odessa.

Someone posted pictures on Facebook of the women walking out of the school with bags of food.

Federal law requires that workers throw away cafeteria food that isn’t consumed by students. Thus, the district said the women knew it was wrong and fired them yesterday.

Like really whats the deal with companies even having a policy like that....rather throw it out than give it away to ppl who actually need it you know lunch ladies don't make no money especially in west Texas

Seriously they can take that to homeless shelter and feed a lot of people. I do not understand the point of throwing away good food just because nobody has eaten it. My parents were very strict about wasting food growing up. You better finish everything on that plate

Well it is the school district policy so they have the right to fire them even though it's fukked up. I never understood why businesses throw away unsold/uneaten food. Plenty of homeless people would appreciate the food. I hope these two ladies can get a job ASAP.

From what I've been told the reason is, if you were to give said food away to the homeless or anyone else for that matter and they turn up sick the company can still be sued in the case of food poisoning or sickness etc..
