is someone who is sick enough to open fire in public killing multiple people gonna stop and think “oh no what about my grandmom after all this”. let’s focus on the prevention and not the punishment.

It would at least try to incentivize getting help for family members that are obviously mentally disturbed. They shouldn't just be able to chalk it to the game when they seen the obvious signs of their kin being a loose cannon.

How? Once you are an adult what can you do? The mother or grandmother of one mass shooter a few years ago called the police on her son/grandson about the guns he was buying and his mental state, but the cops said they could do nothing about it since they were legal. When the system is constructed in a way to allow people with mental issues to get guns with little ways to deal with it, this is what you get.

It's literally because of Reagan. Once he changed the funding of mental institutions from Federal to State, it's been downhill.

They really need to start showing the graphic videos of these shootings. It’s hard to watch but you get an entire different view then just hearing numbers of victims.

In the case of a (reported) black shooter, like today, that is not going to have the effect you're hoping for.

This thread is a prime example of the problem as a whole. Folks are debating red versus blue states while ignoring the lobbying and special interests groups pushing this gun culture for sales. With whites, guns are tied to patriotism and political ideology. For people of color (mainly blacks) guns are tied to music and other outlets glorifying violence. I hate saying it but these special interest people have done a great job. They made it where talking points and assertions triumph over critical thinking on issues.
