Pharrell literally is producing music for other people, music for himself, music for NERD, clothes, sneakers, a hotel, being a husband, holding down his own family AND she wants him to do the type of shyt that her parents/manager is supposed to be doing.

Listen, if I’m signed to Pharrell that’s a door that’s already open. Give me 3-5 fire Neptune tracks, adlibs, a hook and do some video drops for me and I’ll handle the rest. fukk expecting the dude who signed you to give you the red carpet treatment unless you are an elite talent.

Scrounge for your own tracks, find producers and hire someone to be your creative director and shape your brand and not rely on CACs at the label to cook up weak ideas then charge you for it.

Take half the advance $ so you can eat and tell the label they can keep their $ or throw that into your promo so you don’t own them as much when it’s time to recoup. Book some little shows and under the table cash club appearances.

Make sure you got 5 solid songs mixed and mastered for an EP and then get on some damn features because in the event one of them shyts blow, you can ride the promo off of someone else’s dime
She had a machine behind her. She was allover MTV and shyt as a youth. She did t take advantage of her cosign like you said

You think Barry Gordy was “Protecting” The Jackson 5 just because he signed them and mentored them early on? Absolutely NOT. That was Joseph’s, you know their FATHER’s job. And by all accounts he did it well (if sternly) as none of the Jacksons were on drugs, had their money stolen, fathered any illegitimate kids, broke any laws, or caused any scandals while JOSEPH was in charge. He protected them because as a father thats what his JOB was. As their manager he also negotiated favorable terms with Motown and when it was time to bounce from Barry and Co he negotiated favorable terms with CBS. Matter of fact, none of them brothers really had any financial/career issues UNTIL they fired Joseph as they’re manager. Jermaine stayed behind at Motown and released flop after flop after flop.

It isn't that simple. Every father isn't Joe Jackson. He prepared his children for the industry. That's not every father. And even then, there was A LOT that he couldn't protect his children from. Remember, they grew up as Jehovah's Witnesses and were sheltered from a lot that most children aren't. To move them into an industry where a lot of customs were normal to industry people were pagan to them. For instance, celebrating birthdays, Christmas, Easter bunnies. That's not including the adult stuff that would be forbidden to them.

As a black man signing a young black teenage female he should've protected her

I don't give a fukk about all that wheres your father shyt

He knows how grimy shyt is, and I'm sure he fed her to the wolves

So nah nikka, you should've lead with honor, at least until she is of adult age

It's not that easy. Of course being signed to Pharrell opens doors, but that only gets you so far.

Think about it, as a new artist, who really cared about a new artist having a Pharrell track? There's a whole bunch of artists on Star Trak that just sat on the shelf.

Ya'll make it seem like she could've just brought her dad into a meeting and everything would just be smoothed over. It doesn't work like that. Those people are going to look at her dad as a nobody. This isn't school.

You can't just hire producers and people to do this that and the third for you when you're not someone established. Doors will close in your face because it's like "who are you" and "why should I give you my time".

I don't think that's what she's referring to anyway. You're dealing with an industry of shady people. She goes into the meeting and there's some perv in a position of power propositioning her or making moves on her. What's she going to do? Call her father? No, she's going to tell Pharrell as this is really the most powerful person she knows who moves in that circle.

If you're having problems at your job, you'd look like an idiot calling your parents to handle it. No, you're going to get your immediate supervisor involved. To her, Pharrell was that person.

Breh she had her family around her when she got signed — so she wasn’t alone. But she expected Pharrell to do everything. In the very least he’s giving you buzz, a couple of tracks and you will be seen with him — that’s a lot that someone not establish on his label ain’t getting.

Now, the advance from the label isn’t free, you gotta pay it back one day but take some of that bread and sniff out some producers who are eager to work + get placement on a major label project. Back when 50 was doing The Massacre (and even other G Unit projects) he was getting beats from unknowns and them shyts were fire. And these days it’s even easier to sit you ass down for a few weeks just listening to beats and making your picks in terms of what vibe you want. Every track won’t be a Travis joint but there’s heat out there.

LOL, having her family around isn't helping her. What are they going to do? Pharrell was far more of influence in the industry than either of her parents.

In terms of helping her buzz, she had Pharrell tracks. There were several artists on the label who had multiple songs produced by The Neptunes that it really did nothing for: Famlay, Roscoe P Coldchain, Vanessa Marquez all had a bunch of Neptunes tracks and we never got an album. Famlay even had "Rock N Roll" in rotation on Rap City that featured Lil' Flip. Roscoe P Coldchain had "Delinquent".

Past couple years, a lot of artists and producers are finally realizing that Pharrell only cares about Pharrell. So I get what Teyana is saying.

Dude is literally still working on Pusha T projects with Chad and other sh*t, and taking credit for all of the work, like it's not still a Neptunes production. Then he relaunched the clothing line for N.E.R.D. and cut Chad out of the deal. Chad said he's needed to take legal action to get his money back from dude.

Pharrell is one of our legends, but he's a dude that cares about himself and will definitely throw the people around him under the bus, if it'll make him a dollar. Kelis spoke on this and people said she was hatin', and Chad went through the same sh*t with dude right after, lol. It's what he does.
