I wasn't a fan of DL Hughley but he has his moments

:ehh:

I don't know much about him but the few times I've seen Jerrod Carmichael he's been a little funny.
Doesn't feel like there's a powerhouse black comedian right now, though.

Like, you went from the Prior era to the Murphy era to the Martin era to the Rock era to the Chappelle era....and what has there been after Chappelle?

Kevin Hart?

It isn't a platform for new talent to be brought in like a Def Jam. It's the internet mainly and just people who do vines and post memes and stuff that are considered the new young guns. Nobody not trying to lose they spot.

True. But they're usually just a bunch of random funny people

They're not true comedians imo.

Years ago I remember watching Martin Lawrence's "1st Amendment Standup" and saw Deon Cole there.

I don't know if Deon was known before that but he's had some decent success in the last few years. I think that was the last platform for black comedians that I can think of.

Black Comedy died with Patrice.

EARTHQUAKE FUNNY AS fukk THough.
Patrice probably would have been the next huge star after Chappelle.
It did take him a long time to get into the mainstream though.

Elephant in the Room was released in February of 2011, and Patrice died in November.
That stand up was huge though, and it would have almost certainly led to bigger things if he lived.
