i've sent a TY letter before. i felt a sense of desperation when i did that.

didnt get the job but it was a good way to inquire if the position was still available, a way to stand out, and a way to remind them who i was and my interest in their company.

I think some people in this thread are thinking a Thank You letter is a verbal knob slob on some "yes sir, please may I have another" shyt. Nahhh. Just something to make you stand out from the pack and show you are a professional.

I always encourage candidates I work with to do so, but I send them a template. Again, its very concise and to the point.

Don't let your ego get in the way of moving up in the world.

Of course, all of this applies to position which are career type things. If you're interviewing to be the dude who hands the bags of food out at the drive thru window, probably not necessary.

:laff: folks saying no to a thank you letter???

b....thats an MUST...that shyt is NOT option...i repeat it is NOT optional

if you need help with your thank you letter, holla at me

its supposed to be composed with 3 goals in mind
- briefly restate why you're the best choice for the position
- briefly restate something key that y'all spoke about during the interview (shows that you were engaged, paying attention and already thinking about ways to contribute to the job)
- establish that you're ready to take that next step toward employment with the organization

It wouldn't hurt. It could show you're appreciation of them giving you the time of day for an interview and reiterate how much you want the job. :manny:

Had a great interview yesterday for I job I would love to get. Back in school they trained us to send thank you letters (e-mail) after interviews, to me it seems kind of lame but have any of you guys done this at all?

:ld:

I did on my last interview....even though I felt I got the job regardless.. it didn't hurt.

the nikkas in here saying no must work in sanitation or something, a thank you letter is a must for corporate life. just for example, for the current job I have now, on my 3rd interview I was making small talk with the HR jawn before I met with management again and she was telling me how they whittled down the candidates and she said there was someone my eventual boss really liked but she didn't send a thank you note. They immediately tossed her in the bushes because they interpreted that as her not having any interest in the position.

Yes.

Against my own wishes I did send one today for a over the phone job interview I had last Thursday. Shortly later I got a email from the person in HR I interviewed with saying they would like to move to the next stage.

To most of us it sounds desperate writing a thank you letter. To the hiring manager or HR person it doesn't. It really is what seperates the yes candidates from the maybes. It shows that you are serious about the job and are very intersted. My manager told me if they have more then one good candidate they'll see who writes thank you letters and follow up with the candidates who did.

I don't think it'll hurt, but make sure you keep it short and concise. You don't want to look like you're begging for the job.
