I remember watching MTV news when it was announced that he passed. Me, my older sister, and my cousin fro St. Croix were bumpin all eyes on me heavy summer of 1996. I was so shocked. I was 12 at the time and understood death, but it didn't really sink in that he was gone. I still haven't gotten over it...maybe that's why many fans like myself wanted to hold on to the belief that he actually was alive.
When people say Biggie ran New York and Pac ran America, they were right. To be honest, he might of been the most poignant rapper of the 90s. He really encompassed the depth of the black american experience. And the American dream...from rags to riches.
His more positive songs speak of a man that has such knowledge of self and determnation.
