why do the years before '87-88 go ignored, like they weren't legendary too?

It really was though. That 18 month period from Summer '96 to Winter '97 is pretty much unmatched to this day.
It's crazy how every two year interval in the 90s is like it's own mini era , for instance you can tell the drastic difference from 96-97 & 98-99 instantly just by hearing a song or looking at the atheistics of a video

But 88 was the start of the 2nd Golden Age of hip hop, New artist, New production technique, New Emcees....Ultramagnetic MC' s kicked open this era old rhyme patterns are gone, New futuristic B Boy rhymes by Kool Keith, Ced Gee production that influence the Bomb Squad and Dre, then you have Eric B and Rakim, NWA, BDP, 8 years of classic hip hop albums
