On the real. I dont understand why cats in here goin in on his boys for saying that. Like Benji wasn't gon look out for em.

Lotta ballers from the hood that made it do this shyt all the time. KG, AI, etc..

Depends on the context which we don't know:

If it was man wa going to come up and we would have had a ball :smugbiden:

If it was my man was my ticket out of here (as a grown man saying this)

I just saw this over the weekend for the 1st time. It wasnt really on my radar. Saw this thread but never clicked on it. A FB friend of mine posted a link to the story talking about "This was our life in Brooklyn in the 80's...a must see documentary!". I clicked on that and was like "why don't I remember this nikka? Benji? Brooklyn?" I guess my dude was just tryna make the comparison. Cuz then I read this thread and saw dude was from Chi so no wonder I didnt remember the story. So I read this b4 watching the doc and I wanted to see if I agreed with some of the things I read here first.

1)Benji's mom was very strong, but she was not faking or putting on for the cameras. She was an RN and she knew the deal right away that he wasnt gonna make it. I could hear her voice cracking during the moments she showed incredible poise and they had shots of her breaking down at the funeral. And her calling for them to open the casket 1 last time AT the graveyard shows just how well she WASN'T dealing with the loss.

2)Jesse Jackson is a snake and apparently always has been. Every frame he was in looked like a great photo op for him and the funeral was a circus. All them mufukkas didnt need to be talking and Jesse sounded like he was campaigning. He was running for prez at the time.

3) I didnt have a problem with his boy saying they missed out on experiences with Benji not being around. For one, it's a 100% true. Two, to me it wasnt said in a way like "man this mofo went and got himself killed, we coulda been yadda yadda yadda". It was more statement of fact while reminiscing. I doubt these were random hanger on types. I dont think ESPN woulda put guys like that on to hurt their credibility in telling the story. I think those were his real friends.

4)I believe dude that killed him as well. Them 2 lil 5'6-5'7 nikkas was not rolling up on 6'7 Benji going thru his pockets to rob him, gun or not. The places where Benji got hit tell me it was "pull out and fire" situation. Ben got hit in the hip and thigh. For one, that shows the height difference in the 2, again making Benji an unlikely robbery target for them. Second, if you robbin a nikka and decide to shoot him, you probably gonna aim for the dome or chest. Benji was definitely not running from them nikkas. And Ben's brother said he wishes he wasnt tryna be like him that day. Since he's certified on the streets out there, I know he's heard a more detailed account of what went down then we heard on ESPN.

Word. nikka been gone almost thirty years, and these nikkas still talking about "we was gonna :eat: good with son; he was gonna take us places". And he'd have been right there on that "Broke" documentary ESPN did a couple weeks earlier.

The homie Charles Barkley was spitting some truth about that on Dan LeBatard's show last week.

What he say i couldnt find it :to:

He was basically talking about his own experiences, even with his moms and grandmother asking for dough, then giving it away to other family members who was trying to :eat:, then coming back to him asking for more, and him being like :damn: I just gave you some dough. He also talked about how nikkas around the way that he came up with, when he would go back home to Alabama, he would go out with them, and they would all :eat: good at an expensive restaurant or something. But then when he would leave, they would be talking slick about him. Good stuff.

That's how I tried to explain it to my 12 year old son. He caught it about a quarter of the way through with me, and he was trying to process what the big deal was about son. He saw Nick Anderson in his Magic jersey and realized that dude had played with some ballers, but still, he asked me afterwards, "what was so special about that kid?" I told him that everyone knew he was the best, and he most likely would have been a superstar, like everyone knew Lebron was destined for greatness. Then he saw D-Rose and Jabari Parker, cats he's coming up knowing about, and then I could see him putting it together like :ohhh:

Yeah I was 1 year old when dude was killed so I'm looking at these highlight expecting to see the second coming. dude was nice but his game looked more finesse and Bosh-like. I was expecting him to yam on nikkas left and right. The game has changed a lot. But even that dude Battle and that other cat Everrette was yammin on folks. :leon:

Benji saved alotta lives in Chicago by dying so famous and young

Its a shame though it take the number 1 prospect in the nation to die first before they actually started taking gunshot victims straight to the trauma center

The city gave no fukks about the 1000+ people getting shot per year prior to that

This is true. his death changed laws. At least he didn't die for nothing.

I still don't know how the guys that killed him weren't killed in prison or afterwards if he was so loved by the hood tho.

i will say this again, if your not from chicago or la you don't know what we go thru as far as this gang shyt, people keep saying they believe the shooter, IMO it doesn't matter the size of the person, nikkas with a gun AND part of a gang do not believe there are in fear, they believe that they are the shyt and are untouchable PERIOD...... i use to bang gd when i was young and i feel that ANY little thing would have lead to fam getting shot, not a big ass push like the shooter said....my little cousin was killed over a five dollar bet so i know how a nikka feels if they feel like they are treated like a hoe....period

I saw that his son was actually living out on Long Island; got a D-1 scholarship to some small school. Wasn't as tall as his pops, or as nice. His moms seems to have kept him on the low; Benji's family couldn't even get hold of him to come through to the funeral when Mrs. Wilson died in 2000.

just watched it.

not to talk down on the dead, but are we really supposed to feel sorry for him because he played ball?

its always sad when someone dies, but the only person i truly feel sorry for(aside from wilson's family, of course) is the dude that got hit with 40 years just for being on the scene.

thats if the shooter's accounts are true. but i dont see what he has to gain by lying at this point, so i believe him.

how good was r kelly?

he played in the usbl. i think he played for the atlantic city seagulls circa '97.

i keep forgetting kells isnt much younger than my folks.

The real phrase is 'Don't pull out a gun if you aren't willing to use it.'

Meaning, don't pull a gun thinking it makes you invincible b/c the man you pull it on might test your nuts or have a gun of his own and if he pulls out (pause) and you aren't willing to shoot then you're going to be the victim.
