aids since i was a young buck, like decades.
you wouldn't know it by looking at him. he's
in better physical shape than most guys half
his age. modern medicine saved his life and
now he is part of his loved one's lives.

Yeah, that's not how viruses work. They're not sudeenly going to become a death sentence in under a week. Viruses are not incentivized to be deadly or kill their hosts. Any super lethal virus will eventually mutate into a greatly more infectious but less lethal virus. But it takes a long time for that to happen.
