That match between Hogan and Sting Starrcade 1997 has to be the biggest...

fukk up in wrestling history? I mean I remember till this very day, I was like :comeon: @ that bullshyt ass ending.

I watched wrestling all the way up to 2002-2003ish and that match was the most hyped match outside of Hogan/Ultimate Warrior.

It was the PERFECT setup, Sting played that role perfectly for MONTHS leading up to that shyt. Hogan and the nWo were on top of their game. Sting had that extended intro...it was a perfect setup and they fukkED IT UP COMPLETELY at the end of that shyt.

My question is this...I have been out of the loop for a while...is there a bigger blown opportunity than that match?

i agree, the buildup was one of the best angles in wrestling history. the match ended up being fukkin garbage. i partly blame the crowd too because they should have been more into it.

The bigger issue was the match was 20 minutes and damn near 18 of it was Hogan offense and Sting was being worked like he was Kevin Sullivan

Not only that....but they foolishly had Luger beat Hogan cleanly for the title months erlier which did NOT help

thats because the show itself was trash....WCW was just strange. Its almost like they would purposefully do exactly what the fans didnt want them to do. By the time Sting/Hogan showed up, the fans were beaten down by a mediocre show and were expecting to be let down, and WCW of course didnt disappoint. Starrcade 97 was their chance to put on a dynamite show, and bury Vince...and they did the opposite.

The company as a whole was one big ass blown opportunity at the time. They could have had a strong sting, as a mysterious enigma, lone wolf champ and virtually unbeatable...a wolfpac group (hall, nash, xpac) as a sht starting, devil may care faction, a face hogan (team him with ric flair as superstar veterans...how cool would that have been???), a fresh bret hart who was coming in with crazy momentum, and Goldberg....the tension and potential storylines from those entities should have been enough to eat off of for years to come...but within a few months, it was all squandered in order to placate Hogan's ego.

I still think it's the GOAT build up in wrestling history, but yeah it got undercut by Luger going over Hogan :beli:

It's the WOAT fukk up, while Bret going to WCW is the WOAT squandered opportunity. But, if them nikkas knew what they were doing, they'd still be in business.

I thought Brock Lesnar and Goldberg would have been awesome to see, since both were leaving the company. Then it turned out the way it did, and I was very disappointed. It made me hate Goldberg more than Lesnar, although I will admit I was mad at Lesnar for leaving the E'. He seemed entitled at the time, and I wanted him to lose badly when he was in NJPW and MMA with UFC. Although once Mir had subbed Lesnar, I stopped hating Lesnar.

Although Starcade was the bigger fukkup for sure.

I still don't give a shyt about Whisker Biscuit because he said like he would have done MMA if he knew it would have taken off.
