There is little defense besides armed security for a assassination,but a eager robber who has gotten to close can be suprised by quick and decisive action.Also a robber isnt going to tactically stepback or have the proper grip unless you are Jeff Bezos getting stuck up by mercenaries

In his defense, I'm sure that his methods completely rely on the element of surprise. Last thing a dude with a gun expects is for you to try to grab the gun.
