it’s crazy cuz it wasn’t just the industry either...on the streets everybody was tryna look/act hardcore...nikkas went the rest of the decade w/o smiling lol...this is why '93 til infinity (album) was such a breath of fresh air for me
Isn’t this era 93 to early 95 called the “Ruff Rugged and Raw” period? This is where a lot of videos are in abandoned buildings with flaming barrels, rapper holding picks and axes.

Da Youngstas track comes to mind with Treach and then they had one in an abandoned factory on verbal Glock

Its funny how as a kid it didnt occur to me how outrageous it was for Hammer to go from "U Cant Touch This", "Pray", "2 Legit 2 Quit" in colorful genie outfits to "Pumps and a Bump" (Which still goes to this day) and the "streetwear". The funniest part is that was more in line with who Hammer really was. It used to be street dudes fronted like they were upstanding citizens to get on. Hammer was probably the last of them before the flip.

This was a good ass thread

nikkas went from high top fades and colorful shirts to flannels and Raider hats mean mugging the camera
Everybody had a damn scowl on their faces :laff: I may have mentioned this already, but I’m pretty sure it was Diddy that turned the tide around from this era, even though it may have been a gradual shift. You can even tell from the movies and shows that were coming out at the same time.
