I remember exactly where I was when I read this by
@Walt
I was living in Bushwick, Brooklyn on 170 Harman Street in 2013 and I drank way too much of the Kanye West koolaid. Thinking that he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Becoming one of the most shameless Yeezy stans ever. Trying to cop a pair of Nike Yeezy 2s and took an L. To me he was taking art and music to exciting new levels...especially as a Black creative.
I'll remember I was standing in line for a Kanye West Yeezus party for what seemed like an hour
Then we were told it was invite only and anybody that didn't have an invite couldn't get in. This was before his Yeezus show at MSG.
But yeah...when he was trying to put out confederate flag merch...I was so not with it. I was like "whats wrong with this guy?" For the first time ever. And I felt I couldn't support that. Everything else about Yeezus was just spectacular to me...but that Confederate flag merch I could not rock with at all.
Unfortunately I think that was a predecessor to what would come next.
