Rook - only move straight any number of spaces

It’s basically a war game
anyone got any good literature on how to learn this game? been meaning to look for a minute. i know the basics, i need to learn strategy
It’s easy

Pawns - move forward only one space and optionally if you move a pawn as your first play it can move two
Bishop- move only diagonally on the same color
Knight-moves in an L shape
King- moves any direction one space at a time
Queen - any direction as many spaces as needed

Objective of the game - capture the king while protecting your king

You can’t eat men like in checkers

You just attack ie remove it from

When I win I bring we with me
Magnus held it down last year. Watched his championship matches when they showed up on my youtube feed. Caruana and Magz tied like 10 games. Lol.

Also chess was started by Egyptians #blackexcellence

And this is based on what exactly :ld:

:jbhmm:
The immediate precursor to chess was a game played in India.
What you might be thinking about was a game called Senat but Senat isn't chess. The pieces don't even have the same movement structure. For instance
  • in chess each unique piece has a standard moveset. in Senat all peices move the same.
  • In chess each square is neutral, in Senat certain squares have unique properties denoted by the symbols in them.
  • Most significantly movement in Senat is controlled by "dice"(sticks) throws to determine how far a piece can move ...and all pieces move in the same order on a track with the only distinction being the number of steps the piece moves forward.
Now with that said Ethiopia had a very interesting "real time" chess game where the there was no turn taking prior to the first piece being captured. Only after the first is captured do you engage in movement by turns.

Now if you said board games as a general term was started in ancient Egypt then I'd more likely rock witcha....:hubie:
