I was expecting some Divergent/Insurgent or Hunger Games type bullshyt but this reminds me more of maze runner. Im only on season 1 (ep5) but this show is pretty good. Ya'll watched?

They send down "100" test dummies to see if the earth is inhabitable* or not. While down there, the group begin making their own rules and trying to survive on natural resources..

Maybe she read a lot of books on the space station growing up? Maybe it were "natural" human instincts. Everything you do instinctively, does not have to be taught to you but ok...
