that was all for mostly white people... if you extend those benefits to non-whites the support dries up instantly.... selling racism to whites will always be a bigger draw than anything else....
In some senses partially true but all remember that in the 1950s the biggest racists weren't Republicans, they were Southern Democrats and segregationist parties. Quite a few Black folk were still repping the Republicans in the 1950s and many of these policies may honestly have had Black people in mind too.

When a bunch of those southern dems and other fringe parties started becoming republicans was when the current paradigm shift started. Somewhere between JFK and Nixon time wise I believe.

Republicans today are like 100 billion and a toothpick bridge.
