Dre got the same pass Prince did, their weirdness came off as authentic and all the stories we hear of people who knew them are consistent with that

Thug is blatantly doing shyt just for shock value, it aint the same

andre didn't get no dam pass for that chit. people used to look at dude with scust. a lot of people figured he was gay.

there just wasn't a big deal made about it because outkast wasn't relevant all like that.

regardless of who you think is better, young thug attracts a lot more attention than outkast did in their day. so naturally, hes gonna catch more flack.

for what its worth, I always just looked at andre as a failed attention-whore. him and big gipp. the difference with young thug is that hes pushing all these blatantly homosexual over-tones.

I'm not intending to single you out, but the music isn't the biggest reason why heads look back on the Source Awards with nostalgia. The MTV VMA's were on less than 2 weeks ago. A Meek Mill /Drake run-in would have negated an otherwise shytty awards show for a lot of people on here. That became the appeal of those shows for a lot of people (put all the biggest rappers in one building and if they really didn't like each other, something was gonna happen), same with Soul Train Awards after a while

youre leaving out the fact that these shows had better music, better nominees, better performers. and YES more of a raw/unpredictable feel - but that doesn't necessarily equate to beefs & fights. the atmosphere alone was raw, and especially the crowd reactions - the soul train awards ALWAYS had this going for them, dating way back to before they even included rappers on their show all like that. I'm talking bout that good ole black music/culture feel. we don't have it anymore. they watered it all down.

and mind you, there were NO altercations at this source show. in fact, a good amount of this crowd showed up in suits & ties.

:patrice:The game actually started getting watered down to me by this point

yea the process started circa '97.

but when youre falling from a high level, it takes years before you hit the ground.

some observations:

- Puff is a lousy live performer

- Mia X handing an award to Juvenile (and Cash Money) was kinda funny (while her labelmate Silkk lost that one)

puff is one of the goat performers. he was just up there performing a wack song on enemy territory.

yea, that never sat right with me, until recent years when I found out that most people on no limit & cash money were cool and/or cordial with each other.

I think they just wanted to give mystikal some billing, since he was the most popular rapper on the label at the time. he probably was on his way out too.

Is this the one with that massive brawl or was that the Vibe awards?

nah

source awards 2000
vibe awards 2004

U serious, money?:dahell:

Been a known fact. They're first cousins too. Their fam all hail from Mississippi.
This is why Ray J got to hang around a little during the later Snoop Death Row days.

Ive said it before and ill say it again tho, cats in the entertainment usually dont let out that they got fam in it, especially urban music. Gotta feel authentic for us as consumers to buy it and so that we can relate to the faux "come-up" story. Same with most 9-5s too, even tho thats for ego.

Cuz when Snoop was Snoop it wasnt like they said they were that closely related from what i remember, even tho they did the Apollo in 95 together and shot for a magazine.

what about mr malik?

Which makes it all the more hilarious when people care about cosigns and literally get into rappers because "x rapper said so."
