Upton has a higher upside than Bourne, and he's 2 years younger and entering his prime.

I prefer to keep the pick but my issue is if you knew the draft pick would become an issue why not start working on it earlier ? Just piss poor planning by the front office but do you expect anything less from Sandy Alderson who only wakes up once a year to make a deal ?

Signing bourn made no sense..a leadoff hitter in his 30's to get us 69 wins instead of 65 no thanks...i dont understand any met fans who want the mets to make a move just for the sake of making a move,finally the mets are looking towards the future and not putting a band aid over a bullet lets be thankful. If alderson doesnt make huge moves next offseason then you can complain.

Wilpons showed what that wallet do
He wouldn't of got that much in FA, since he would have been turning 32 in 2014, and he's incredibly streaky. He'll likely be the Donnie Baseball of the Mets, very good player who unfortunately represents a period of ineptitude.

Fred Wilpon says Mets will increase payroll as needed

That means general manager Sandy Alderson will have free rein to spend on players, even if it means becoming "big investors" in the free-agent market next offseason.

"I don't know what the market will be at that point," Wilpon said. "But the payroll will be commensurate with anything we've ever done because we can do it. The people have to come to the ballpark, obviously. If you have a competitive team they will."

Since then, the economy has turned in a positive direction. Wilpon cited a healthier stock market and real estate market. He also pointed out the strong financial performance of team-owned network SNY.

Damn...I noticed the Mets payroll went from $94.5MM last year to $83.2MM this year.
