I don't think they wanna do that. I think they just wanted to guarantee those 163rd game moments.

I was telling @mastermind though that the 2nd wild card actually hurt things in the AL. Yankees /O's /A's/Rangers all bunched up and one of em would have had to be knocked out. Instead they're all in (though in fairness, Baltimore and Texas would have needed to play this game anyway to break their tie for the wild card anyway-- it just counts as a playoff appearance for the O's and Rangers now)

The team with the best record has a .605 winning percentage. That means they are losing around 40% of their games against whoever they play. Think about that.
