Pennant race baseball >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everything

Reds score 3 in 9th to tie Pirates

Royals/Rangers tied 1-1 in 7th

Rays/Orioles in a one run game

Indians have a 1-run lead

:wow:

But you wouldn't know all this if you watch ESPN. I swear they basically gave up on baseball, there coverage is terrible. This race is crazy and a lot of casual fans wouldn't even know about it cuz ESPN doesnt cover the sport like they used to. They don't even have segments on ESPN anymore where they ask anaylysts on who they think has the best chance to reach each race or break down the teams or anything.

I don't know. Baseball is built different from other sports. Most. Teams built like the Nats have a window of 3-4 years to get it done if they have a good squad and we done used up 3.

Look at the Mets. They had that prime squad in the mid 2000's and couldn't get it done and then their window closed and look at them. They're an afterthought in our division. They wasted their contending years. Couple years ago they almost won 100 games and now they struggling to get to 70 after avering 70ish wins a year.

For them not to play Strasburg last postseason with that long term excuse, they better not hesitate to sign him to whatever long term contract he wants when he hit free agency. He already eligible for arbitration this offseason. Seem like yesterday he made his debut against the pirates.

The Nats window is not closed at all becasue its a young team that Met team besides Wright and Reyes was filled with guys near the end of their careers like Delgado Pedro Glavine etc

Obviously baseball isnt like the other sports where just becasue you have the mos talent you will make the playoffs every year but aside from injuries the Nats should contend for quite awhile

I was thinking of this a few days ago too. He up for arbitration next year. Zimmermann is about to be a free agent in 2015, as is Desmond.

I dont think the Nationals window is short, however if they really want to contend they cannot count Werth being able to perform like he has this year ever again. They gonna have to make a decision on first base too with the season LaRouche has had. Maybe play Tyler Moore more? They are also going to have to look at Ryan Zimmernan's position too.

Bullpen is a problem as well.

And i agree, they will have to break the bank on Strasburg after last season. Im not as convinced by Strasburg as I used to be.
Larouch has one more year. Tyler Moore has the potential but whenever they give him any extended playing time he doesn't take advantage. Plus Moore doesn't have the glove that lark he does at first. U seen how important that was when we nick no whom departed and we had Dunn at first. Gave too many teams four outs and that coincided with our record. As erratic Zimm and Desmond can be throwing to first u need a good glove and flexibility over there and Larouch give u that.

Werth is right on pace what he left off last season. He's at that age where baseball player really perform too. Look At him and his work ethic I see 2011 was an abbération. Only thing I worry about him is his durability and health.

Big question mark what we do with Espinosa. Tendon might not have his power but he has the the better bat. And while he might not be the infielder that Espi is, he's more than sufficient there.

The bullpen is a problem but there a even bigger question at the blackens of our rotation. I be really surprise to see haren back . Ohlendorf and Roark have been great. I think we're undefeated in games they're pitching. Something like 11-0. The biggest reason beside the bats waking up for our winning the last month have been these two. Earlier in the season, we had no chance to win when our 4 and 5 pitched and now we can't lose when they pitch. We need consistency. They don't have to be dominant but they have to give our team an hence to win like Jackson and deviled did last season

LaRoche has 11 errors this year at first. :patrice:

It could def be more though with Zimmerman and Desmond airing the ball out.

Espinosa is done as a National, imo. I felt that way when he got dropped down. He batting .216 in Syracuse with 101 strikeouts. :damn:

I dont trust Werth. I think he can be a complimentary player at best, but dude been one of the best players in the NL since he came back. I dont buy it.

So you think Detwiler is done? Closer is a problem too.

And dont forget Taylor Jordan.

Werth doing exactly what he did in Philly. Over the last couples of seasons , his production is closer to this end than what we saw in 2011.

I don't know what expect out of detwiler. Closer is set for better or worst next season. Stamen and clippard are dependable. Store was the big disappointment. It he's been good in the spots since his call up.

I wonder who we lookin at for manager next year

there is talk of Mike Scosia, but I want someone who is younger. Preferably not from within the organization.

Scioscia is not leaving Anaheim this offseason unless he gets fired, and it looks like DiPoto will go first.

You know who would do wonders for a team like the Nats... Tony Peña.
