I should have played Baseball, I would have been a millionaire right now. Byron Buxton has the talent I had but he stuck with it. :to:

I randomly was thinking about it looking at box scores this morning. Dexter Fowler had one of the craziest starts to the season. 7 HR through the first 14 games, and then just 1 in the next 36.

It's crazy in baseball when a guy is locked in for a little while, but a power surge like that from a guy who isn't known to hit homeruns is weird

Fellow Braves fans.

Are y'all still not worried about BJ Upton?

:al:

We are in big time trouble.

BJ is well documented

Uggla is a lost cause

It's time to start wondering about Francoeur Jr. (Heyward)

Justin Upton is taking a dive

Pitching staff is not looking good

Freeman, Mac, Schafer spot starts and an occasional Gattis PH is all we have to look forward to right now.

BJ is like a mini Adam Dunn :obama2:

Dude is a like 180 soaking wet and takes these huge as swings. He's suppose to be getting on base and using his speed to score runs. He has this leg kick that has a hitch followed by this big ass swing. Usually the really good hitters have a leg kick because of the hand/eye and timing that it takes to fully utilize it.

George Brett is the new Royals' hitting coach. :patrice:

:russ: at that valiant effort by Panda trying to dive for the ball, when he knew he wasn't going to come close to getting it. :childplease:

Ok, so I'm catching up on the Fringe Average Podcast (the new weekly Baseball Prospectus podcast...I highly recommend it), I'm listening to last weeks episode, and they were emailed a question about the shift, and they read a rant Jim Leyland went on about said topic. It came after Lucas Harrell (Astros pitcher, who were facing the Tigers at the time) criticized his own team for using it when he gave up a couple hits:

“We’re trying to do stuff with our defense right now and it really worked against me tonight,” Harrell said, according to a tweet by Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.

--Harrell also was irked about Andy Dirks’ go-ahead ground-rule double over the out-of-town scoreboard in right-center and said he thought some hits he gave up should have been caught.

Leyland's comments on the shift:

"We basically let the pitcher decide if they want that or not. ... Doug (Fister) didn’t want him over there. There was some confusion to start with. I’m not a big shift guy. Some teams are and that’s why I don’t buy it, because you can’t have it both ways. You want to do it or not? Doug saw that he was shifted on the bunt the first time up, so if he wanted to move them he should have moved them. So I don’t play that in between shyt. I can tell you that right now. I don’t play that bullshyt. Well, that time you should have had him here, this time have him there. That’s bullshyt. I don’t buy that at all. That’s total bullshyt, I can tell you that right now. That’s weak shyt.

"Just like their guy, (Lucas Harrell) I read in the paper: ‘The ball, well, it could have been caught.’ That’s weak shyt, I’ll tell you that right now. You can’t have them everywhere. Put them where you want them. You want them here? Put them there. We’ll put them anywhere you want them. I don’t want to hear that bullshyt. That’s weak shyt. That’s what happens with the shift. When it goes where someone would have been if they hadn’t shifted, well, they shifted. You can’t have it both ways. I think I’m pretty good. I can’t be over there at that desk and be over here on the couch. That’s just as fukking simple as it is. And that kind of weak shyt pisses me off, I can tell you that right now.

(pause)

"Do you have any other questions about the shift?"

:laff: I love these older managers...they truly don't give a fukk. I don't know how we missed it, but this shyt was great.
