That's because nobody was willing to trade anything of significance to acquire a 2013 pick. I'm looking at DX' mock and all these centers are garbage. I like Austin's potential though. He may not even declare this season though.

This isn't true. Picks were very much coveted because of the price tag attached to those picks. Usually late firsts get thrown in depending on the player or they deal picks with protections. Teams weren't trying to come off those picks this year or next year.

I'm actually a fan of some of those centers given what they can do. Guys like Withey, Dieng and Olynyk can help right now (even though I hate Olynyk) while guys like Gobert (who I'm not a fan of anymore) and Nogueira (who to me is the most intriguing case study for bigs) and Adams could be guys that can be serviceable later. Not a lot of guys with super high upside, but like I said, if you want a cheap backup C or rotational big, it's a good place to go because those players would otherwise cost at least triple on the free agent market.

The hell was he thinking:bryan:

There are teams dying for a franchise PG right now

There are only 3 teams in the lottery even actively seeking a PG. Orlando/Dallas/Utah.

What do you brehs think about Kasey Hill though? You think he'll be a 1 and done point guard, or do all 4 years like Boynton did?

I think he's better than Harrison as a point guard and more explosive, just doesn't have the size or consistent jumper yet...he's there 2 years imo

Marcus Smart is not making a good decision. Scouts will pick apart his game next year unless he totally balls out and gives them no choice but to still pick him in the top five. Some players make the right decision when they come back but i dont think this is one of them.

McAdon't makes Harrison Barnes look like Rick Barry.

He did the right thing by going back because he wouldn't have been a first rounder, but he's insignificant as an NBA prospect.

He was damn near a lock for the lottery last year though. Dumb decision on his part

what's funny about that? They CAN. They're not upside guys. They're guys with no less than 3 years experience that can contribute on some good teams. Lots of teams could always use a backup C.

Who was the last rookie center not drafted in the top 8 that contributed as a rookie besides Brook Lopez?

Withey=Cole Aldrich
Dieng=Hasaan Whiteside
Olynyk=Tyler Zeller

2004? :timmy:

and if you meant 2003, :laff: aside from Lebron, career loser Melo and Wade to an extent, no one will remember that draft. There were like 5 good players in that draft.

I do agree that next years draft will be strong, but every year you hear how syrong next years draft is gonna be. Remember all the talk about Zeller, Bazz, Noel, McAdoo, etc this year?

Yeah. If anybody says otherwise, they're lying or weren't paying attention.

Marcus Smart would've been a top-five pick this year, he'll be one next year, but he'll be a year older and a better player.

lazy and uninformed comparisons. Olynyk and Zeller and Dieng and Whiteside are completely different types of bigs.

And who said anything about contributing as a rookie? I'm talking about the need to have a cheap backup C. Even the guys that didn't contribute as rookies turned out to be OK later on (Splitter, Pekovic, Vucci Mane, Seraphin, Mullens)

You should be the last person wondering about this given who started half your team's games at C this year. Even something like that is something a team will take in year 1 as long as they develop later on. That's the appeal of drafting bigs late, especially when in years prior, there usually aren't many bigs to be had late because they all go early. Now there's more depth there.

New Orleans too..

3 elite PGs on the board are Michael Carter-Williams, Smart, and Trey Burke. hell even Nate Wolters is in the 1st round of the mock draft.

Greivis Vasquez - New Orleans Hornets - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

I think New Orleans is doing just fine at PG.

What I think NO might do if they can't get Otto Porter is replace Gordon and use Rivers strictly off the bench

a PG like Erick Green will get picked before Nate Wolters. ACC POY = automatic first round berth

Yeah, I meant 2003.

And what do you mean Wade, to an extent? Wade, by the end of his career and even now really, will have accomplished more in terms of what fans will remember long term than anyone in the 1996 Draft outside of Kobe.

And obviously you have LeBron, who is the GOAT-in-training.

The 2003 Draft overall isn't on the 1996 level, definitely not, but I think it's better at the top.
