All the language says is that the Mets can't make him a qualifying offer. Which means any team that signs him this off-season will NOT have to give up a draft pick to do so. This makes him more appealing and likely more expensive.

According to what ESPN was reporting if he doesn't sign an extension he has to be "released" and when you are "released" you cannot resign with that team for a certain time period and that time period goes into the season and I'm sure he won't be available that long

The Mets will retain exclusive negotiating rights for the first five days following the conclusion of the 2015 World Series. After that, they can't negotiate with Cespedes until May 15, 2016. The Tigers, however, along with the rest of MLB, would be able to pursue him as a normal free agent this winter.

Tigers trade Yoenis Cespedes to Mets

I don't see why he won't at least come close. $100M may be too high, bit he's 4 years younger, and has been healthier, than Cruz...who got 4/$58 this past off-season. I think he'll be the 3rd best OF on the market too, after Gordon and Upton.

He is nowhere near the hitter that Nelson Cruz is...not even for power and definitely not contact...

Pure power guy who doesn't get on base a lot and is not a very good base runner when he does get there...

He only really fits on a team that does not have a ton of power...

He is not even going to the Mets to be the big power bat clean up guy, he is going there to protect Duda...since teams can just straight up avoid pitching to him in all situations now with that offense being punchless...

There is a reason this guy has been on the move so much...

You'd rather have the Cubs roster going forward

If you say otherwise you're lying

As a Red Sox fan I would too tho
Nah, I'm good with Detroit's roster and anyone saying they're fukked in the near future is kidding themselves.

Infield: Miggy, Kinsler, Iglesias and Castellanos
Outfield: JD Martinez, Gose and probably Cespedes again next year
Catcher: James McCann
DH: Victor

That's as good a lineup as anybody in the majors.

Verlander appears to be coming around after the injuries and Sanchez will rebound too. They're gonna have money to toss around for at least one starter this winter (Zimmerman, Cueto, etc.) and Norris should be in the rotation next year as well (pitching on Sunday). If they get new management that actually addresses the bullpen instead of sitting on their hands for nearly a decade like Dombrowski, they'll be in the playoffs again in 2016. Bet it.

Yeah, the key part of the Cespedes language is that he automatically gets released, so the team that he's with (and that "releases" him) can't re-sign him until May 15. So now, if (in this case the Mets) actually want to keep him, they're gonna have to come to an agreement between now, and 5 days after the World Series ends. Or he can sit out the first month+ of the season and wait til May 15th to sign back with the Mets, which is certainly not gonna happen.
Mlb rules are stupid

This makes no sense
