They weren't supposed to compete this anyway. But it doesn't make this hurt any less. Even if their kids pan out, the team has a black hole at first base and hitting 3rd in the lineup. Santana/Hughes/Gibson is decent but there's no shutdown guy there so they are still behind KC and Cleveland in terms of talent and potential in the next few years.
