If both teams stay on the same rotation, with no postponements, it'll be Ian Kennedy (SD) @ Mike Bolsinger (LAD).
I haven't kept up with baseball in years, who should I be looking out for as for performance players that night?

Joc Pederson and Adrian Gonzalez for the Dodgers. Prolly Kemp and Upton for the padres.
Basically this. Looks like it's Adrian Gonzalez Bobble Head night, so that's cool. Also, I'm pretty sure it's Kemp's first series back in LA since being traded, though I'm sure the crowd will give him the standing O on Friday in his first at-bat.

You're point was how many times they made to the playoffs, but all but one year they lost in the 1st rd. After his team making the playoffs so many times and not winning, the regular season starts to not matter.

Playoff baseball is random
The Phillies in 2011 were hand downs the best team yet didn't make the WS, same for the Dodgers the last 3 years.
