Blue Jays finally found a suitable replacement for Russell Martin :blessed:

I remember Montero being dependable for the Cubs for the last 2 seasons, and for his clutch moments last year. His grand slam in game 1 of the NLCS against the L.A Dodgers and His game-winning, World series winning RBI in the top of the 10th inning in game 7, when he drove Anthony Rizzo home to make the score 8-6 in favour of CHC. Cubs won later 8-7 and clinched the WS championship for the first time in 108 years. He was also a good player on the Diamondbacks, they made the 2007 ALCS with his help.

Good.
He's better than Martin.

Al shoulda traded him there in the offseason @god shamgod :manny:

Cubs pitching been getting rocked all season and who do they want to add a 34 year old making 28 mil a year with a 4.96 era :why:

Don't want verlander but the cubs probably would only have to give up a c level prospect cuz of his contract and avila is having a career year he sucked on the white sox. It's whatever this season has been a letdown thus far

Weird thing is Verlander is still hitting 96 consistently. The stuff is there, his control has just been terrible. Almost has as many walks already as he had all of last season. He's very salvageable, in my opinion.

He can bridge the gap til cease, albertos and de la cruz are ready which should be late '19 or '20 season :manny:

Tigers would have to eat some of the contract and take mark zagunis or maybe canderlario, rather keep jemier but there's nowhere for him to play

Tigers want a huge return and are not willing to eat any salary. He's staying in Detroit.

Tigers Set Large Asking Price For Justin Verlander

Never mind :francis: they're crazy

Cubs still looking funny in the light.

:francis:

Y'all think they making it to the 'Offs this year? If so, they need to overtake Milwaukee. Doesn't look like they're getting in through Wildcard.

Gotta start high then work your way down. :manny:

I think he'll wind up on the Cubs or Dodgers.

JD is the big fish in this even though he's gonna be a free agent. Wonder if they'll be dealt together to get the best possible deal.

AL pitchers going to the NL typically have a very strong track record too. Scherzer is about to make the Hall because of it.

There's no way Verlander should carry a high price in a trade.
He's 34 and he will likely never be a top 20 pitcher ever again.

At best, he's a team's #3.
Best case scenario for him would be a team with a great bullpen so Verlander could let it fly for 5 and 2/3 innings, then hand it over to the bullpen.
He does still have enough velocity to be a winner. He could probably run a mid-3.00 ERA the rest of the season. But he'll be closer to 4.25 next year.
And I know he was good last year, but pitchers don't get better at 35.

:coffee:

I should add, it depends what teams consider a "high price".
I wouldn't give up a Top 5 prospect for him...unless he went to serious playoff contender.

Rays' Morrison says Yankees' Sanchez doesn't belong in Derby

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Logan Morrison has a problem with the Home Run Derby.

Morrison has 24 home runs this season, tied for second in the majors. He didn't get an invite. Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez, who has 13 home runs, is competing in Monday's event.

"Gary shouldn't be there,'' Morrison told the Tampa Bay Times on Tuesday. "Gary's a great player, but he shouldn't be in the Home Run Derby.

"I remember when I had 14 home runs. That was a month and a half ago."

Sanchez will join his Yankees teammate, rookie Aaron Judge -- the overall leader in home runs, with 28 -- Kansas City's Mike Moustakas and Minnesota's Miguel Sano on the four-man team that will represent the American League.

Sanchez has the fewest homers among those competing, but he missed more than a month of the season because of a strained biceps.

Defending champion Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins, teammate Justin Bour, Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger and Colorado's Charlie Blackmon make up the National League team.

"I'm not disappointed," Morrison said. "It's par for the course. I play for the Rays. I get it. They can't even get my picture right. When they put my name up there, they put Corey [dikkerson's] picture up there ... on MLB Network. When they put up the home run leaders, they put Corey's swing on there -- not mine.''

Morrison might get a chance to go to the All-Star Game. Although he wasn't chosen for the squad, he is on the five-man ballot for the final spot on the American League team.
