Pales in comparison to the 100M+ the Cubs still owe Jason Heyward.

Zach grienke has 170 million dollars left on his contract.Yankees have given out the worst contracts in sports since 2002 giambi, arod, sabathia, tanaka,Texiara billions wasted that's why they aint won shyt. They're still paying arod and he aint even on the team :mjlol: jacoby dlsburry has 68 mil left and he'll be a platoon player.

The Ellsbury contract is horrific. No denying that.

I'm not concerned with Tex, Sabathia and ARod.
Tex is retired.
ARod is retired.
And Sabathia is off the books next year.
Further, each player did perform at an elite level at some point in their contracts.

Hayward is a bum and won't be worth his contract in any year of it.

That Greinke deal is terrible because there's no opting out of it. HOWEVER, the money is constant up front. The Diamondbacks owe 138M after this season. It's possible that Greinke can still be *somewhat* worth it in 2018. Less so in 2019. But those final two years when they owe him 70M...that will be bad, in part because Goldschmidt will be a FA and likely gone. And the team may not be very good.

Cubs were the best team in baseball and won the world series with heyward contributing nothing offensively :yeshrug: If he never lives up to the contract so what. He's 27 going on 28 and has 6 years 134 mil left which aint that bad.Heyward can bounce back easily he's been much better this season at the plate. If he doesn't he's the ONLY bad contract on the roster

Tanaka having the worst season since he's been in mlb & has an opt out after 2017 :pachaha: he's probably about to steal another 67 million from the yankees.

Jason Heyward is the 4th highest paid player in baseball.

He's 58th in WAR...not total.
58th among outfielders.

He's 83rd in outfielders adjusted runs created.

His contract is arguably the worst in sports. Not just baseball.

Rays are in the wildcard right now but if they slip in the next few weeks it's gotta be tempting to trade Archer seeing what Quintana got back

I don't think Archer gets moved.

Of the remaining teams with legitimate playoff hopes, the Astros have the most fertile farm system. And they don't need Archer.

A lot of teams in the race who could use pitching have very good systems

Brewers Dodgers Yankees Rockies

Yankees aren't selling any prospects to Tampa. They just announced that Pineda needs TJ surgery and Bird is getting surgery on his foot. So they're gonna just ride this season out and play for next year.

The Dodgers are interesting.
The Rockies aren't doing anything until they know if the rotation is legit. Jon Gray has to assert himself as a top tier guy before they risk prospects to pair him with an Archer type.

The Brewers seems like the most realistic spot of the teams you've mentioned.

The Rockies have the makings of a very good rotation the problem is their basically all rookies and are hitting the wall already

Maybe not Archer but Rockies need a veteran who could eat up innings at least

Though the nl is so bad even if they don't make a move who is gonna catch them for the wildcard?

Colorado knew that Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado would be good.

They probably didn't expect Mark Reynolds to be good though. Reynolds somehow has managed to steadily lower his strikeout rate. Four years ago it was 30%. Now it's down to 22%. With his power that changes a lot.

David Dahl will return soon to take over for Gerardo Parra, who held his own in April batting .282 with 5 HR.

Expect Freeland and Senzatela's ERAs to go up.
Also, the Rockies are 9-1 in one-run games. So we'll see if that keeps up.

They may very well be in the WC hunt late in the season, but if the Dodgers get healthy I think they're the team to beat in the NL West. (Though I can't believe they are playing Chase Utley. He's awful).

Let the record show that since I posted the above back in May, Senzaleta is 3-5 with a 7.47 ERA.

And Freeland is 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA.

When are you guys going to listen to me?

Good call :salute:

Still can't see them losing the wildcard barring an epic collapse
