One good season the last 4.5 years, but this is a blockbuster deal? Only because of his name it's being made a big deal.

Cubs should have pulled trigger, could be difference between another WS

What would it have cost though?

Verlander would be dealing hard in the NL

Cubs have top 3 team pitching since asb,Arrieta lowest era in mlb since asb verlander isnt the difference between nothing for the cubs

Not giving up any significant prospects and taking on that contract for verlander, only prospects the cubs have left with any real upside are in aa /low a I wouldn't give up any of them for verlander
They couldn't top our offer.

they didn't need or want to, he controlled everything cuz of the ntc.He just went to houston cuz the cubs wouldn't give up anything significant for him

The Cubs farm is a bit depleted.

Losing Eloy Jimenez and Gleyber Torres in a year stings.
The Cubs don't have a single Top 100 prospect at the moment. I'm not saying their system is bad, but it's gonna take a little time to rebuild. They don't have the assets to land a guy like Verlander.

A deal around Caratini wasn't going to cut it

Mets should've gone after Verlander.

A veteran that rarely gets hurt brings them a ton of value and will certainly help Noah pace himself during games (next year and beyond).

Tigers need to trade Fulmer this winter. He'll go to waste otherwise during his team control years. They gotta try to load up so they can keep up with the Sox and Twins in a few years. Dark days are here. :mjcry:

Yeah was just telling my buddy at work who's a Tigers fan, good moves this week, but you guys are so far behind in the rebuild than the Sox now, it's gonna be tough. At least you have pockets to buy FAs tho?

Chris Illitch won't spend money like his dad. They're gonna be spending like the rest of the division now. :kobewhatever:

Shame too because the next two years are gonna have a ton of nice free agents and they're gonna have A TON of room after next season. Cabrera and Zimmermann are the only two making any money after 2018. Everyone else is making peanuts.

USA today just dropped an article about it. Dodgers was his first choice but didn't even want no part of it.
