It took Damon Berryhill just two at-bats to realize Ronald Acuna was special.

It was July 13. Berryhill, the manager of the Braves' Triple-A Gwinnett affiliate, had just received the touted Acuna after his promotion from Double-A Mississippi. Berryhill placed Acuna in Gwinnett's leadoff spot immediately, eager to see how the precocious Venezuelan would fare.

“His first game, we're facing Charlotte and he swung at (consecutive) sliders to strike out his first at-bat," Berryhill said. “He was probably excited; it was the one time I did see him chase out of the zone.

“But his next at-bat, he walked up and first slider (in the zone) he saw, he hit it over the right-field wall for a home run. Right then, I knew, this is what they've been telling me."

Braves need some of these pitching prospects to work out. They're doing a solid job of bringing up position players. It's definitely the opposite of what I'm used to seeing with Atlanta. I'm not used to watching the Braves with subpar starting pitching.

It's more likely that we have 5 Cy Young candidates in the rotation in 3-4 years than it is for us to not have any. That's how many arms we have in the system. We just gotta develop and not trade them

Huh? Braves have the best pitching in the minors

They have depth too so even if a few guys don't pan out they still could be ok

Having the best pitching in the minors doesn't mean much when those guys get to the big leagues. I just want to watch good pitching again. Who is the last truly good pitching prospect to go thru Atlanta's farm? Teheran? Their track record with starting pitching prospects hasn't been great lately.

Who was the last to come thru the Mets farm before Harvey? Mike Hampton? Your scepticism is valid but the guys since Teheran weren't projected TOR guys in the first place. We have at least 7 guys who could rival the guys the Mets have brought up over the last few years

To this day, I still don't understand why the Braves traded Andrelton Simmons.
I also don't understand why they signed Nick Markakis. Still pissed about the Kimbrel and Heyward trades as well.

Simmons trade was fukkin stupid

Dominant closers really have no place on bad ball clubs. The problem with the Kimbrel trade was the shytty return due to us dumping BJ Upton with him

Heyward was my favorite player but he's actually trash, wanted to be paid like a legit baller, and got us a good return in the long run(Heyward > Shelby Miller > Swanson and Inciarte)

I totally forgot we got rid of BJ Upton in the Kimbrel trade. We got Newcomb back in the Simmons trade and this guy has control issues. The Heyward trade definitely got us a great return. I'll agree there. I just despise the Cardinals so that pissed me off even more that we traded Heyward there. He was also my favorite player. His defense is elite but he can't hit now. I definitely thought he'd be a much better hitter.
