Every year the FBI compiles a giant collection of data on crime in America. Local precincts report everything from violent crimes to rape to art thefts.

And in a stroke of good news, the most recent report shows that violent crime last year was at a five-year low.

The FBI defines violent crime as murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

We've rounded up the most dangerous cities in America based on the number of violent crimes per 100,000 people reported for each city. We only considered cities with 100,000 residents or more.


1. Flint, Mich.
Flint reported 2,337 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 83 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

2. Detroit, Mich.
Detroit reported 2,137 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 48.2 murders per 100,000 people. The national average is 4.7 murders per 100,000 people.

3. St. Louis, Mo.
St. Louis reported 1,857 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 58.7 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

4. Oakland, Calif.
Oakland reported 1,683 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 26.3 murders per 100,000 people. The national average is 4.7 murders per 100,000 people.

5. Memphis, Tenn.
Memphis reported 1,584 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 61 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

6. Little Rock, Ark.
Little Rock reported 1,490 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 440 robberies per 100,000 people. The national average is 113.7 robberies per 100,000 people.

7. Birmingham, Ala.
Birmingham reported 1,483 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 853 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes for 100,000 people.

8. Atlanta, Ga.
Atlanta reported 1,433 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also 34.9 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

9. Baltimore, Md.
Baltimore reported 1,417 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 31.3 murders per 100,000 people. The national average is 4.7 murders per 100,000 people.

10. Stockton, Calif.
Stockton reported 1,408 violent crimes per 100,000 people
The city also reported 448.3 robberies per 100,000 people. The national average is 113.7 robberies per 100,000 people.

11. Rockford, Ill.
Rockford reported 1,373 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 73 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

12. Cleveland, Ohio
Cleveland reported 1,366 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 794.8 robberies per 100,000 people. The national average is 113.7 robberies per 100,000 people.

13. New Haven, Conn.
New Haven reported 1,344 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 42.3 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

14. Hartford, Conn.
Hartford reported 1,311 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 21.6 murders per 100,000 people. The national average is 4.7 murders per 100,000.

15. Buffalo
Buffalo reported 1,238 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 555.8 robberies per 100,000 people. The national average is 113.7 robberies per 100,000 people.

16. Kansas City, Mo.
Kansas City reported 1,200 violent crimes per 100,000.
The city also reported 57.4 forcible rapes per 100,000, more than twice the national average of 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

17. Miami, Fla.
Miami reported 1,198 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city reported 494.4 robberies per 100,000 people, more than four times the national average of 113.7 robberies per 100,000 people.

18. Philadelphia, Penn.
Philadelphia reported 1,193 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 21.2 murders per 100,000 people, more than four times the national average of 4.7 murders per 100,000 people.

19. Nashville, Tenn.
Nashville reported 1,181 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 60.9 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

20. Newark, NJ
Newark reported 1,166 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 711 robberies per 100,000 people, significantly more than the national average of 113.7 robberies per 100,000 people.

21. Washington, D.C.
The nation's capital reported 1,130 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city reported 17.5 murders per 100,000 people. The national average is 4.7 murders per 100,000 people.

22. Indianapolis, Ind.
Indianapolis reported 1,101 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The city also reported 52.2 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 forcible rapes per 100,000 people.

23. Springfield, Ill.
Springfield reported 1,096 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
However, the city also reported 22.31 robberies per 100,000 people. That's significantly less than the national average, which is 113.7 robberies per 100,000 people.

24. Orlando, Fla.
Orlando reported 1,073 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
It also reported 49.4 forcible rapes per 100,000 people. The national average is 26.8 per 100,000 people

25. Baton Rouge, La.
Baton Rouge had 1,066 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
There were 385.6 robberies per 100,000 people. The national average for robberies is 113.7 per 100,000 people.

Kinda surprised by Little Rock and Stockton. I keep hearing bad things about Stockton but never had a bad experience there. It would explain why the MMA Diaz brothers are always so pissed off, though. As for little Rock, I never really figured it to be dangerous. Just never occurred to me I guess.

Is it crazy that I kinda wanna visit Detroit as a tourist?

nikkas need to learn to read. It's based off forcible rapes. Basically all these cities are rape towns. Chicago is more about that senseless killing.
