Nas has been named the best rapper of all time in a new poll voted for by NME.COM readers

Nasir Jones – known to the 25m people to have bought his albums worldwide to date as simply Nas – broke new ground for rap in 1994 with 'Illmatic', a coming-of-age sprint through the sights and sorrows of his native Brooklyn. Last year's 'Life Is Good', as its title suggests, saw him mellow without losing any of his lyrical fire.

The rappers included in the Top 10, revealed to coincide with this week's issue of NME, available digitally and on newsstands now, also include Notorious BIG, Big Pun, Roots Manuva, Andre 3000, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mos Def.

Nothing against Nas, but this poll was irrelevant because Eyedea wasn't an option. Would have been nice to see some of the Doomtree or Strange Famous lineup in there too.

Big L was dope but his overall impact on the rap game is extremely limited. Its no surprise to not see his name mentioned on lists such as these. Was Big L even the best in DITC ? I mean rappers like Lord Finesse and O.C. never get mentioned but you could argue they were both better than L.

L has a cult status among heads, his death has made a lot of people mention him in top 10 etc lists. if he actually fulfilled hos potential then it might be warranted but i wouldn't put him inside my top 30 probably
