It's not even a rule...The MVP voting is done by the media and most of those guys have their own logic for voting.
I remember there were years when you have those guys publicly saying they didn't want to give Shaq the award because he could arguably win it ever year.
It seriously makes no sense that the two best players of the past decade have 2 MVP's combined.

word people don't realize the Lakers won 45 games with that shytty roster in loaded western conference that year. Did ya that fukking roster 90% of them nikkaz were out of the league after their Laker stint or still barely hanging on basketball career sitting at the other teams bench. Kobe was actually putting up numbers while collecting W's with that rag tag bunch. Its fukking tragedy Kobe didn't get the MVP that year, I challenge any player that year to that task of willing that team to a playoff spot much less winning 45 games with that roster in the western conference that year.

Everything about the game is heresay, but Wilt himself said it was a bit of a farce and I remember an interview he did where said he apologized to his teamates or the other team because of it.
