shyt you just reminded me of a thread I been sitting on for months....
"common day terms derived from Jazz Slang"

I looked up a Jazz Vocabulary list months ago out of basic curiosity/research and noticed common terms. Afterwards thought it would make for a novel thread topic to pick out and detail jazz age terms people still use like
  • Square
  • Bread
  • Chick
  • etc etc etc
Never felt like separating common terms from the others so I never made the thread:yeshrug: .....shyt I might gone head and do it today or tomorrow:ohhh::ehh:

make that thread:ehh:

Rappers--->White kids who stream their music

No middle man like in previous decades.,No program directors on radio stations or MTV, who determine who gets airplay.
They get it straight from the tap in 2022

Also black people and black rappers post shyt online which white people listen and watch and then use the word. Before these white kids had to wait until they heard it on a CD, Tape, Radio or ran into a black person who said it and then they would know about it. That should could take weeks, months even years.

Now all black people need to do is hit send on twitter, youtube and social media for the non black culture vultures to eat it up in a millisecond.

Yep I saw this growing up in the 90s. I remember watching movies them west coast gangsta movies like menace to society and boys and the hood or watching west coast rap videos. When my dad would watch it with me and be like "wow they done brought some of that 60s slang back? We use to say that all the time"

Or even how kats would have like a baby bottle and a pacifier and pops would be like these kids doing what we use to do as kids in the 60s. I was like what kats use to do that? :russ: Dad would be like yeah then show me pictures of some of his friends in elementary school and high school who use to run the streets rocking afros with pacifiers and baby bottles like in the west coast videos and hood movies...:russ:

Above the fray.

Very good point. The Hudlin Brothers one time talked about the idea of traveling styles, slang, music, and dances. Just among AAs, in different cities and regions of the country.
Said that Soul Train and BET altered (fast forwarded) the natural pattern of styles spreading. Had never even thought about that before. Much less it spreading to other groups.

When Bob Johnson and BET toned down the other aspects of AA cultural programming, but kept the rap videos 24/7, it dawned on me just how much of the audience was white kids. He said he made money hand over fist running rap videos all day.
Like you pointed out, today it's instant. No filter, no middle man. Hot rapper or celeb says a word and boom, followers pick it up.

Randomly came across this opinion below in the YouTube comments and thought it was a funny/interesting take.
(Agree :hula: Disagree)

The AAE to white people slang pipeline:
  • Black people -> white homosexuals -> drunk white girls -> mainstream white vocabulary.

Or an increasingly common alternative:
  • Black twitter -> internet memes -> mainstream white vocabulary.

:patrice:
What would you add or change?
both, top is usually black women, bottom is black people in general
