The absence of Funk's influence is a big reason for the disconnect between old and new Hip Hop.

We need the funk :wow:

A lot of cats really have no music IQ or any type of database to draw from. People hardly dig for or discover music on a mainstream level.

If it ain't in your YouTube recommended :francis:
Can't any of the streaming services provide curation and history?
I grew up in the Bay Area. Our radio stations played classic hip hop records, Prince, MJ, freestyle, r&b.
Then I would watch Rap City and every Wednesday it would be Old School Wednesdays so I got exposed to shyt from the 80s that I missed.
Artist comes on the show? You see their old videos too.

Speaking of being exposed, I had people in my life put me onto things.

Oh, you like that Jay joint? Peep his first album.

Oh, I bet you ain't never heard DMX like this.

That melody is hot right? Look where it's from.

Music is only for listening now, you're not really digesting/consuming it. I pride myself on being studious, but I've seen a lot of people pride themselves on ignorance

I always wondered where the new rap generations “trap” sound and production came from? If it didn’t derive from older black music (funk) or even 90s early 2000s rap then where?

A lot of new rap is taking influence from rock indie and punk

this is true...

especially the live show

I do this with my kids all the time. I got FL and show them how the song they like is chopped up and I let them add drums. That's how my son learned to play keyboard.

Breh....

I can’t even watch these nikkas live.

I’ve seen Freddie Gibbs, Schoolboy Q, and Big Krit on stage jumping around on that white boy shyt looking goofy as fukk.

Hard to take them seriously after watching them like that.

I blame Kanye’s fakkit ass.
