Thats just lifestyle and diet...you be hard pressed to find any indigenous tribe of people where obesity runs rampant...the lifestyle is so dramatically different then say a western one...where our diets are all fukked uo

Nah breh. My people are from Tennessee. When I was a kid and I visited my grandmother's house in Tennessee we literally had rice every day and we ate it with different types of stews made mostly of tomatoes, squash, okra, chicken/salmon, oninions, greens or beans.

Now we also ate stuff like greens, black eyed peas, sweet potatoes and stuff like that too, but we always had rice and stews multiple times during the week.

This is why it drives me up the wall when "conscious" types shyt on Soul Food.:stopitslime:

Lol @ enough meat. Even as a dairy Farmer you don't eat meat every day brehs. Even with a chicken coup you don't eat chicken all day. I kept a farm. The problem with human beings is we have normalized what used to be food for feasts as daily meals. Our meat portions we eat are unreal and only supported by mass farming of animals. It always bugs me our especially when I eat a plate of chicken wings at how many dead birds I'm holding on one plate. I would have to kill my whole flock as a farmer to have a decent plate of wings. All this shyt is about convenience and supported by big industry. We don't have our own best interests at heart. That steak on your plate used to go around as meat for a more than one person. We would have corn, beans, greens etc to make the meal more filling.

Walking and living an active lifestyle too. Most people think going to the gym is fitness when they don't even meet their average daily activity requirements.

My body type is still lean fit muscle and I don't over indulge in food and even when I do my metabolism is great but I never grew up eating a lot of meat and have cut down even more over the years. Sugar too. Avoid that shyt. I walk a lot too. Best therapy for a cloudy mind.

That is because people have been led to believe that soul food is only greens, macaroni and cheese, chitlings, cobblers, fried chicken, pork chops and shyt like that. My family hardly ever ate that stuff unless it was a holiday or family was visiting from out of town or just once a month after church services or something like that.

What we normally ate was a lot of rice with stews (thick soup), which was made up of stuff like beans (pinto, lima or black), peas (black-eyed, purple huss or snap beans), okra, squash, onions, chicken or salmon. We also ate a lot of biscuits (always homemade), molasses; hoecakes; hotwater cornbread; salmon croquettes, fried green tomatoes; watermelons, cantalopes, berries, peaches, homemade jellies and stuff like that. My grandmother and her sister grew all of that stuff in their gardens and put stuff in jars that we would eat during the winter month when I visited them down there.

We ate a lot of chicken, fish and sometimes even rabbits, but I don't remember that much beef or pork being served even though we ate baloney for lunch every once in a while. Everybody down there pretty much ate the same way and I can honestly say that I don't remember many fat people, except for the preachers; and looking back on it they were probably fat because they were eating all of that heavy soul food.
