I use twitter because the more mentions, retweets and interactions I get, the more free stuff I get :manny:
Plus it's a great way to network or keep up with politics, music, shyt like that.

I think it goes deeper than just social media, internet addiction in general is something that needs better addressing as we rely on it more and more. Forums, gaming, porn:whistle: can all contribute to a dangerous distancing of yourself from actual/face-to-face social interaction, the key is to know when to force yourself to throw your phone/computer/tablet in the bushes.

I hate to admit it but for once I agree with one of the sentiments shared on this board. It does appear that women are much more likely to boast on social media, men are not immune to it, but from what I've seen women are the perpetrators of this crime on a grander scale. Again, I think this boils down to self-worth as each like on facebook or instagram can be equated to a temporary ego boost fueled by imaginary praise. This can turn into an addiction for some and quickly you'll be able to pinpoint the fiends who need to update regularly. If they don't, they feel as if they're not living. Or even worse, that the event didn't really happen if there's no photographic evidence or check in on social media.

Let me tell you a short story: A friend of mine wanted to go somewhere, but upon realizing that her phone was low on battery she changed her mind all of a sudden, and was okay to chill at home. It then occurred to me that she didn't want to go because she could no longer check-in her whereabouts and take enough photos to post online later on. I confronted her about this and she just laughed and said, "yeh, so what?" So what? Clearly, she's suffering from social media addiction, but because it has not been widely acknowledged as a mental illness, she's chilling like the fiend she has become.

Q: Will you allow your future children to have a social media account? I'm battling with this at the moment: A part of me believes sheltering your child too much can cause more harm than good, and on the other hand, this world is becoming so demonic so I just don't know anymore.
:wow:
Sounds like that Black Mirror episode :ohhh:
