I always liked the song but thats because I grew up watching Turner Classic Movies Channel with my father so I got the concept right off the bat

Plus I fukks with creative Nas. His outside the box songs are what sets him apart. Pac, Biggie, Jay nor Black Thought would ever even THINK of tying the old James Cagney detective movies into exploring the “death” of Hip Hop

I really love thematically what Nas was doing with Hip Hop Is Dead. The first 6 songs are outlining why and how Hip Hop “died” which is why you have Carry On Tradition, Where Are They Now, and the Title track. Hip Hop’s resurrection is prophesied on Who Killed It (“Before she dropped the money bag on the floor and died/She said if you REALLY love me i’ll come back alive”)

Then the official rebirth starts with Black Republican, where Nas and Jay-Z put their beef to bed and try to show that unity and mutual respect is the way forward. Then you have Not Going Back (a message to rappers who made it out to stop trying to front in their hoods and making themselves targets) Still Dreamin (Where Nas chastises small minded nikkas who don’t show ambition and want to be hanger ons) Hold Down The Block (where Nas encourages people to rethink their conditioning and make better decisions regarding what it means to “rep” the hood) and so on and so forth.

This post perfectly encapsulates what dikkriding is

You literally said you do not like the song

Yet you clown other people for….not liking the song :wtf:. Then start juelzing a whole bunch of nonsense to why a bad song isn’t a bad song

Phonte said it best ‘dope beats, dope rhymes, this rap shyt really ain’t all that hard’. It’s a bad song, simple. You don’t get bonus points for intent. Ie Jay z meant well on A Star is Born. Doesn’t matter, it is still an atrocious song.
I said im not particularly fond of, that doesnt = dislike or i would have said that.

That means it isnt my fav song on album. But i certainly have listened to it and respect it for being different. On top of the giant metaphor play at work that seems to go over your head as being well done. Are you telling me at its heart its NOT a well written song? Maybe the noire gangster feel was too much in execution but Its 2 verses on a giant album, ill live with a little experimentation after 15 years of nas doing the same shyt.

Could give a fukk what phonte said. He been a crybaby since he mocked rza blew up mocked nas and still couldny make it.

Hes done similar songs which is comedy your bringing him up as some bastion. Like literally to this day his actual job making comedy songs for tv in the same exact manner. Lmao. Jokes on him.

how is this song any different than atari 2600 or any stuff hes done for tv today.. like at ALL?
