TNA and LU having an older fan base than WWE is very odd. 50 year olds watching LU were like 18 when Hogan won his first WWF championship. They were probably watching when Bob Backlund won his first title. And now they're watching a lucha based show with murders, time travelers, and gods incarnated in the body of women.![]()
The TNA one doesn't surprise me in the least, actually. It's been reported for years (at the very least since Impact went to Spike TV) that the average age of a TNA viewer skewed older than the average age of a WWE viewer. I always attributed it to TNA's constant promotion of ex-Attitude Era stars.
LU's numbers may be due to it being on a premium of premium network that younger viewers may not be able to afford or even know about, along with its promotion as a more mature, story-driven prestige format version of wrestling (this is just speculation, though). It would be interesting to see how the cable viewer's average age matched up with the cord-cutter's average age in LU's case.
And to add to my first comment, Nielsen did just start looking at digital viewing habits earlier this year, which means that my comment may be even more generous than I made it out to be. It depends on the metrics Meltzer's using to get his numbers (I'm assuming his doesn't include cord-cutters).
