Watching Saturday Nights Main Event while also snowed in. Gotta bust out a Tall Can on the evening. And for that I went with the Starry Night Milk Stout by Weldwerks Brewing. The ABV on this is only 6.5%, which is probably cause it's on the sweeter side than most Milk Stouts. But man this is another hitter. My personal stout picks lately haven't missed yet. And this is another one. Definitely suggest picking it up if you have it out your way. The pour is nice and dark. All the notes hit on the taste and finish. It's got Chocolate, Hazlenut, and Coconut as the primary flavors and they all come through perfectly.

Picked up some Chinese food for the snow storm the other day. So felt like I should have an Asian beer of some sort on deck to go with it. Decided to try Asahi Super Dry. It was the only Japanese beer I hadn't tried in that section of the cooler. So I grabbed them. Style is Japanese Rice Lager and the ABV is 5%. I don't think it will be my goto Japanese Lager but it wasn't terrible. A little bitter on it's own but it was fine with the food.

This is exactly how I think. Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo always get purchased when I eat Asian.

Abita with Cajun/Creole

Dragon Stout with Jamaican

Negra Modelo with Mexican

I'll make Belgian mussels so I can drink Trappist.
I do the draw the line at Budweiser for burgers though

Tonights Smackdown! beer is the Komes Russian Imperial Stout from Browar Fortuna. The ABV is 12% and it definitely feels it. I don't know what it says about me but the moment I popped the cap this reminded me of Soy Sauce. It pours like Soy Sauce, it smells like Soy Sauce, it even tastes salty like Soy Sauce. The pour is a lightly bubbled dark. And the high ABV comes through on the finish. But, man I CAN'T shake the soy sauce vibe of this one. I like soy sauce but I don't want to drink Soy Sauce. I clearly have to try this again with a completely open palate and see if the notes play out better.

Last nights beer was a bust. So for Tall Can Saturday we're a Mexican style lager. Which is the Darty by Limitless Brewing Company. I haven't been but this is another one of the micro breweries around the KC metro. I think I've only had a couple of their beers prior to this one. This was an easy drinking lager only 5% ABV and pretty crisp and citrusy on the finish. Not really the beer for my current weather situation, but would definitely put on the rotation for Spring/Summer drinking.

worked too damn long today and catching up on the AEW Dynamite episode. Didn't go high ABV just went easy drinking lager. And this is one of the beers out of a sampler box I bought last week. My beer tonight has been the Japanese Style Rice Lager from Upslope Brewing. The ABV is under 5% so it's super light, the pour is a very clear amber. It's crisp on the front and the finish, but light on an overall flavor profile. It went well with my dinner which was Salmon, Veggies and Rice. I would say the light ABV and nondescript flavor profile makes it a solid beer to pair with any meal.

Decided to have a couple of beers while chopping it up about Smackdown tonight. Beer of choice tonight was out of a sampler pack I picked up the other day. It's from Upslope Brewing and the style is Italian Pilsner. I would say this is like their play on a Peroni. This was another easy drinking lager, light abv as I think it was just 5%. No real notes to point out, but this did feel a bit sour on the finish for me. I don't feel Peroni left me with the same vibe on the finish so if you like Peronis probably stay away. This is a case of all Pilsners are Lagers but not all Lagers are Pilsners.

It's Saturday

you-know-what-that-means-gui.gif

TALL CAN!!!!

Today's Tall Can for Saturday is the Emerald IPA from New Holland Brewing. This is in the Dragon Milk family and the ABV is 11% It's hoppy enough that you know it's an IPA. But, man this is smooth it's supposed to have Vanilla in the notes, but the citrus flavors to me are washing that out. This is a nice IPA that if the vanilla notes were stronger would be a great winter IPA, but as it exists, this is a solid IPA year round and probably the perfect just getting into spring or just leaving summer IPA to enjoy

Guess what day it is. GUESS WHAT DAY IT IS!!!

You know me. It's Saturday I buts out them tall cans. Beer on the evening is local to me. Went the Irish Cream Barrel Aged Stout (Nitro) from Boulevard Brewing. The ABV is 11%. This is a Nitro Milk stout so I have to automatically say I know for sure this would taste it's absolute best from the tap. But, all things considered this is a solid little stout. Not overly sweet like many milk stouts. But, I would be curious to know what Whiskey barrels they used for this. I don't love the whiskey profile I've picked up on the finish. Notes that are called out are butterscotch, caramel, and coffee. I like the Grandma's candy butterscotch and I can't get that flavor on this, so that leads me to believe that one of the other notes I'm not liking is that other butterscotch profile type like the pudding which I can't do. I would without batting an eye try this again off the tap. But, as a take home Nitro can it's aight but I probably wouldn't buy it again.

Had a work conflict so I couldn't make it to Hops Club tonight. But, still had to get a new beer in. So trying one I picked up not too long ago. The beer of choice is the Dragon Stout Fire from Desnoes & Geddes. This is an Imperial Double Stout with an abv of 10%. The first beer I've had from this brewery and it is a great one. Smaller bottle though so under 10 oz. But, this had a very nice dark pour, it has a very balanced flavor profile and just a bit sweet on the finish. Definitely surprised by how good this is. If you see em out your way pick em up.

that is my biggest take away. They and Red Stripe should switch bottles. And I don't hate Red Stripe but you know it is what it is. I initially bought this as a one off, or isolated pick up. But, this might make my regular rotation of beers of choice. Despite the little bottle.

Elimination Chamber and a Tall Can don't mind if I do. Today's tall can is the Stunt Double Strong Lager by Monster Brewing. ABV is 8%, and while definitely a Lager it goes down smooth and has a bit of a citrus/juice like finish. ABV wise and style wise it's like the craft cousin to the Bud Ice/Steel Reserves of the world. This goes down too easy for what it is. So for price, and taste, and fun. Definitely pick one or more up if you have them out your way.

It was beer day. And I worked late. Felt I should wind down with something a little strong. So went with a regional brewery and picked up the Rye on Rye Barrel Aged Ale from Boulevard Brewing the ABV is 13.2% I think. This pours really smooth, has a nice amber/red color. But the finish is definitely boozy, so I don't think they aged this in the best rye whiskey. It doesn't burn so it has a very mellow taste. I don't hate it, but I think they for sure could've picked a better whiskey. Night cap a stressful long day this is fine.

We out here enjoying Team USA whoopin Team Bruv's Ass. I also decided to crack a Tall Can and today's tall can cause it's Saturday. Is the Vood Ranger G-Force. This is a juicy IPA, it hits all the normal notes but has the kick of something that has an ABV of 11%. Overall this is smooth and easy drinking, and the Juicy aspects come through on the finish. You can hate IPA's but this isn't one of those
