This is a website filled with people who know nothing about going up the hill in the Broadway/Amsterdam section to cop in the 90's and you asking a question about albums of such caliber that these fools cant answer because 1) those albums are over the top with exaggerations and 2) these fools cant relate to being on the corner like that?

this is why the booth is intolerable. bunch of outsiders with strong opinions about shyt they're unqualified to speak on :francis:

Both mad classic.

I'd go with Reasonable Doubt, only because Hov got more into the emotions, mental struggle and apathy that goes into hustin'. He spoke about the benefits, but he also showed another side of the psyche, that I don't think most MC's have.

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

I kinda see it like Goodfellas vs. The Godfather.

The Godfather is that over the top and stereotypical mafioso flick and it's all about the white collar higher up operations....and Reasonable Doubt comes off polished like that.

Goodfellas is very grimy and right down to the streets and it doesn't seem as smooth or calculating but it leaves a much longer lasting impression, akin to OB4CL.

Jay-Z is that smooth operator and Rae and Ghost are two street savages.

OB4CL also has far superior production because RZA did some once in a lifetime shyt on it, so the fact that he made a more 'honest' product sound just as polished and cinematic if not more so than the advertised blockbuster is amazing in its own right and elevates it to a greater level.

Just the skits like Striving for Perfection and Shark nikkas and the stuff being said at the beginning of Glaciers of Ice shows you how simplistic Rae and Ghost's needs are in this world, but they're real.

Also on a pure track to track basis, Reasonable Doubt falls off once or twice ever so slightly, OB4CL is consistent 5* material.

I should neg the OP for this blasphemous comparison, I fux with stomachlines too!!

But to put things in comparison, Purple Tape has a greater influence and further reach. Alotta of new artists today still talk about "being Cuban Linx" nikkas, or make references to the Purple Tape and Rae & Ghost. shyt even folks in Jay's camp during Rocafella's heyday made reference to OBFCL.

Ain't too many folk quoting Reasonable Doubt like that. One is the story of a come up, the other is about cat with some clout talking about his life. Think about it.
