If they’re going to give Tucker $200M, I rather they could’ve took that money to keep Pete and Diaz. :unimpressed:

Would take Tuck and Diaz over Pete and Diaz. Love Pete but Tuck is younger and has better numbers against LHP than Pete.

Tucker .268/.337/.505/.842
Pete .232/.336/.499/.835

I wonder where the Dodgers came in. Toronto has the long term offer but short term high AAV is something they love to do. I wonder how deep that Astros/Dodger beef is and how much the Front Office/coaching connections between Stearns and Tucker are.

I would also love an opt out after year 1 if I were Tucker. Next year's top position free agent is Jazz and Arozarena. He should be able to make a lot of money next year if he has a good healthy season.

Would prefer they spend the money on starting pitching, and bring up one of the big bats from AAA.

They are probably still going to sign a starter or trade for one, but also Stearns seems to believe in Benge enough to publicly talking about him winning the job out of spring training. Anybody else in the farm probably not ready. Somebody like Clifford might play himself onto the team by June though.

I don't get how many fans want the Mets to be willy nilly about going long term and then expecting them to eat the money near the end on all those deals. You're not gonna be able to eat the money on so many deals and ideally you want people to at least be productive even if they're "overpaid" in those years, plus people expect them to switch things up and fix things every offseason. That is not sustainable.

Just to jump ahead of the narrative.

Cohen got tired of people calling him cheap.

Dollar store Dave couldn't close the deal.
This whole Tucker thing seems performative as shyt. On some 'by golly we tried. You saw that we tried. Can't force em to come to NY'

You think the offer is fake or something? lol
Naa.. I kinda think the GM and ownership has a pretty good feeling if somebody wants to play in the NY pressure. Obviously its just an opinion.. but I don't see Stearns actually thinking that Tucker's gonna take the offer. I kind of hope I'm wrong. I'm so on the fence about this guy.

If it's just a feeling they can't operate based off of that. They gotta make the offer and he can take it or not. I don't think any offer is made and there is a guarantee player will take it. Unless you know they have no other offers.

You see it as saving face when it's Stearns reading the market and being willing to take that shot. I would call it unserious if it was 40 AAV or less. They aren't talking long term with Tucker cuz they probably view Benge as someone who may be good in center but going forward is ideally a great corner OF. No one thought going into the offseason that Toronto would really be the only team willing to give him the years Tucker wants.

I don't get why people are nervously expecting Kyle Tucker's decision. If he's not a Met, it changes nothing since I never expected them to be in the running for him. Makes a Framber signing more likely and they'll probably trade for an OF and possibly another bat.
