Worst thing about this is the offseason is so long it can be weeks before we get a feel for what Stearns' plan is going forward as far as this offseason.

I'm good on Goldschmidt. Even with Alonso gone, I'm good on Vientos. Yandy Diaz or Willson Contreras would be fine with me til someone in the minors shows they're ready (Clifford/Reimer). Unless traded, one of Mauricio and Acuña can have a spot.

As far as the outfield, it's hard for me to expect Bellinger or Tucker so I dont know wtf they do now as far as trading for someone and who that would be. I could see Tucker but that still feels a little surprising and not likely to happen in my mind. Heard Nootbarr, Meyers and Robert mentioned. Gimme a steadier bat at 1B and I'll accept riskier but higher upside in Robert. Meyers and Nootbarr dont do much for me, but :yeshrug: ok I guess.

I'm starting to believe less that Skubal is getting traded and less like he'd entertain an extension. It feels reckless doing that now without having the stability in the lineup that Alonso would've provided. Load up in the pen and I need to feel better about this rotation one way or another. King/Valdez/Imai all sound good to me.

In a vacuum you can obviously make a case as to why the Mets shouldn’t overpay for these guys but when you sign a player like Soto you are signaling that you are going for it for the next 5-7 years of his prime

In that case you’re gonna have to overpay some guys

Yeah maybe in three years Edwin and Pete’s contract dont look great but if it helps you win a title nobody would care

Mets have a loaded farm so I wonder if the trend route is where there gonna go

I still think there is a decent chance they get Bellinger but the Yankees are gonna be desperate as well so there gonna have to be willing to overpay which they were unwilling to do with either Edwin or Pete

It's not in a vacuum they had those guys last year and missed the playoffs in a gutless performance.
It was mostly the pitching but they had 0 comebacks in the 9th inning. That's the lineup. They did not perform, and players have to be held accountable.

Alonso isn’t the reason they missed the playoffs

Getting rid of him isn’t addition by subtraction. Stats are the stats in baseball. This isn’t basketball where stats can be hallow

And while I like Diaz he isn't as consistent as people make it. He has up and down years.
I didn't want Pete back and I didn't care either way about Diaz.

No closer is consistent every year but there aren’t many if any in the league as consistent as he’s been in his time here

If he hit one game winning HR in the 9th we make the playoffs. It is partly his fault.
