we got it in philly now.

hot 107.9 is now BOOM 107.9 and its a bit better than this houston one. i think the programmers just have less respect for houston or something. dont get it twisted tho, the philly playlist is pretty basic as well but it at least has longer legs.

AND BEST OF ALL, they dont play that excerpt from that wack ass black eyed peas song every 10 minutes like they do in houston. they know certain chit is unacceptable up here.

i done heard stuff from schooly d to beanie siegal to lil vicious. i dont think houston 92.1 would touch any of those.

and they have a commercial dissin power 99 & even WDAS. so yea, im in. theyre not f*ckin with 100.3 tho, but its still refreshing radio, and will battle it out for 2nd place with WDAS for me.

We drove back up to NJ/Philly for the weekend last Friday, and that was my first time hearing it. Loved what I heard, though. Philly just keeps on doin' it!

theyre not f*ckin with 100.3 tho....

Glad you know what's up! Without question, 100.3 WRNB is THE BEST R&B station in the world. It's not even close.

Further, Philly CLEARLY has the best radio scene in the country, no other city even remotely compares. The format for 100.3 is brilliant and I'm not sure why Atlanta hasn't followed suit yet. I realize they have an old school station down here, but the signal is MAAAAAD weak and you can't pick the station up once you leave inside The Perimeter (it's Old School 99.3 FM....it's only 99 watts and comes out of Mableton, so it can only be heard on the west side. Once you move east of downtown, it fades out. However, you can hear it on 1010 AM).

Atlanta is the city that should be following suit with these formats....I'm so sick of wack ass Majic 107.5 and KISS 104.1, these morons play the same crap EVERY OTHER HOUR. :camby:

the best part is that they got rid of hot 107.9 in the process. we dont need 2 current mainstream urban stations anymore. they couldve got rid of it 10 years ago for all i care.

plus they lost me anyway when they kept on switching up. it seemed like every year, they were either changing the logo name or their dial altogether. i used to be a fan in the early days when it was philly 103.9  i was rockin with it since like early '97 when it first hit the air and had no djs.

I'm going have to check out this Philly station online... As I reported in this thread http://www.thecoli.com/threads/boom...ion-all-classic-hip-hop.258575/#post-10484027 about the Houston station, I wasn't thrilled about the playlist after a week or so....but I understand they were just starting out...so I backed off my tirade

However, I can say they are getting lil bit better..... just a lil...... I'm really getting sick of tired of hearing Biggie, Tupac, Puff, Snoop//Dre every damn day going to work.... its like :bryan:.....its so much more music they could be playing....and the tracks they are playing are fine..but repititive when you know the breadth of hip hop music from the past 30 years :beli:..... I'm finally hearing a little bit of Nas, Method Man once , ODB........ but still where is the Roots, where is all the Tribe Called Quest cuts, where are all those West Coast Backpack Groups (Pharcyde, etc), where is Busta Rhymes....not one track from him.......they getting there...but its still sorta mediocre....i'm sure they will expand out though...

Glad the Classic Hip Hop format is expanding to Philly....going to have to ask my cousins up there about it...

Oh, and please believe this is not a black station....white folks, Latinos, Asians are definitely listening as well...

man they played AZ sugar hill earlier.

They'll never play an AZ song on the station in Houston....I understand we in the South...but there are 100s of thousands of transplants from other parts of the country...

Need to let a breh go up there for a week and takeover........ :birdman:

So I turn to the Philly station and they playing Method Man and Mary J. Blige "All I Need to Get By"..and then Noreaga "Whut Whut"... ... :ehh: .. with that said..... I find it hard to believe the Philly station would play UGK classics ... ..... so it is what is I guess.. :manny: ..... even though it would be nice if these stations put regionalism aside and just play the wide breadth of Classic American Hip Hop .... :yeshrug:

I might start putting my bluetooth on and connect to this station when I'm driving .. :heh:

You can tell people really appreciate these stations, with the recorsded phone calls they air in between songs..

I had a lot of friends/associates over at Hot 107.9 so it sucks that they lost their jobs. Plus Hot 107.9 showed love to the up and coming artists in Philly unlike Power 99 (clear channel)

That said Boom 107.9 is exactly what's needed. I've been saying for years that Hip Hop has been around long enough (35 years since Rapper's Delight) that the differences between eras feel like an entirely different genre and thus there should be a different station catering towards the classics. I've been streaming non stop and have heard everything from Rapper's Delight to Outkast-Elevators to Timbaland & Magoo's Love to Love Ya to Love Ya to Digable Planets- Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like That) to 50 cent & Lil Kim Magic Stick. It's that lack of that type of variety that's made music lovers dislike terrestrial radio. Hopefully when the station is finished "stunting" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stunting_(broadcasting) they'll continue having the same variety in their playlist. Ideally I'd like to see more mix shows and for the station to give more DJs opportunities to shine (there's plenty of dope DJs to choose from to let shine in this city).

To be honest, It's not even that today's music is bad it's just there's a lack of representation of many types of hip hop & r&b outside of "ratchet" music. Unfortunately, Hot 107.9 was the only station in Philly that used to show love to the underdogs and up & coming artists in the city so their presence will be missed. I also feel really bad for the people I'm cool with at the station who lost their jobs.
