LOL @ Lack of Being Hip Hop...

Don't get me wrong I love KRS-One.....But breh you have to realize many of the people who post on these forums are 14-18 years old. They weren't alive when Criminal Minded and the By All Means Necessary were revolutionizing rap....shyt some of the kids were born AFTER Return of the Boom Bap.....you'd be hard pressed for nikkaz on here to know about Step Into A World (Rapture's Delight) so the discussion you're going to get isn't going to be a fulfilling one (you literally have people on here calling Illmatic TRASH, shutting on DJ Premier's production skills (check the thread, it's appalling) and saying shyt like Ross is better than Biggie). I personally grew up on all this shyt and as a DJ who plays out 4-5 times a week, who's been djing BEFORE serato and actually used to spend my LAST on records trying to be a DJ (I can show you videos of me juggling back and forth, cutting, scratching, etc.....I'm sure if you check one of these DJ posts you can find it.) I LIVE music and hip hop more than you ever have. I'm not even gonna put my DJ resume out there because it's not important....

So It's reflection on me that I don't want to discuss Can-i-bus in 2014? Ok breh :russ: Dude pulled out a notebook to a battle a nikka 2 years ago. I haven't checked for that dude since the early 2000s. He lost it when he started trying to diss Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel back in 2001-2002....Dude's finished, you damn near gotta be a weirdo to still check for that guy.

Kool Moe Dee's book was pretty good. I enjoyed reading about him breaking down who the best MC's were but I'm not sitting here on a forum discussing his music in 2014......

The point is rap and hip hop moves forward.....We can go back and discuss the classics all day and I'd love to but I'm more interested in what's going on now....At 28 I still find myself reminiscing on the good ol' days but I go on hip hop forums for NEW shyt, not to relive shyt I grew up on over and over again.....I'm sure there's plenty of new artist that deserve our attention. I'm from Philly where there's 100s of rappers on every block.....I wanna talk about that young hungry kid who's creating ground breaking and fresh new material......and I think that's where the main problem lays. There's just not enough mainstream major label releases. Underground rap is great but it's not something enough people will connect with, especially since there's so many artists now, things get lost in the shuffle if you're not checking 2dopeboyz or Nahright every single day......Back in the 90s even your rappers who weren't necessarily stars but were popping regionally could come out and drop and do well.

Take an artist like Xzibit....2nd album, pre Dr. Dre , 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz on August 25, 1998 which charted in the U.S. at number 58........He wasn't a star at all but he still got the exposure on rap city, still saw his articles in the source, xxl, blaze or whatever and become a fan and follow....He'd have a base and maybe you had the internet.....you'd go on an AOL message board or an AKA.com (I take it you're old enough to remember that site) or even SOHH and discuss it because there would be a base. I lived in Philly and literally didn't have real life friends to discuss Outkast with until I went to College in 2004...being from Philly everyone was into your Jay-Z's DMX's, ruff riders...bad boy....regional shyt.....I discussed Outkast on the INTERNET back in 98.

Now there's just so much music you're just getting it but maybe no one else is.........except the major label shyt which is few and far in-between. Somehow there's more music than you can take in but now, less of it truly matters. When Schoolboy Q or Ross or Drake or 50 or Jeezy drops there's threads upon threads and everyone partakes. There's a rapper named Khemist from Philly who's AMAZING....had a project hosted by Black thought of the roots....I feel like I'm in my own box listening to it. I can put people on it.....but if nikkas don't know, they don't know.

That's the whole point. If you have exposure to dope shyt then your more likely to get to know. There's no guidance for the youths, I've put on people younger than me on KRS-One and he's become their favourite MC in numerous cases, think it's the style, lyrics, content, hooks, delivery, charisma and energy. I was listening to KRS-One when I was a kid too, by the way I'm not like in my 40's, in my 20's so I was a child when BDP were in their sales prime. It's not about that, real music is eternal, real artists can always be discussed.

I don't get why what your saying is relevant, just cause some kids weren't born when KRS and BDP released they shouldn't be given due respect? I've had conversations that are dope about KRS-One with people on here, KRS is quite popular on here actually. Just the mods aren't really showing due respect.

Over 70 people voted KRS-One over Jay Z here, about 100 ish voted Jay, think it was around those figures. So that shows people do care about KRS-One here. More than I ever have? Your trippin lol. You don't know who I am, you could never have lived it more than I have.

The whole point is the shine should be more fair, the balance should be better, young people ain't ever gonna know if they ain't shown.

It's a reflection on you the ignorant statement you made. Not really, 1 of the best posters IronFist checks for the guy. Infact the poster you were defending wanted to check his LAST album. You don't seem to know what your talking about lol. Canibus even has a fan base on here still.

Moe Dee, he hasn't released any new music in 2014 as far as I'm aware but if he did I would discuss it, he's put his work in enough for me to give it a listen.

I'm not saying not move forward, KRS-One is advancing Hip Hop NOW more than a lot of these clowns. K-Rino is artistically too. Several are. Brother Ali isn't an old school artist and he has a good fan base too, he didn't even get no love. Well that's you, I go on Hip Hop forums for everything, plus if people are making new music who cares if the artist is new? That's a sign of trendhoppin. I fukk with everyone, don't care if it's old or new artist, it's about quality.

I mentioned Chris Rivers who is a relatively new artist, I also mentioned Lowkey who isn't an old artist. I'm all for the new as much as the old, BALANCE is what I was speaking of. You don't have a chance to connect with it if you don't know about it.

And if your 28 I'm younger than you, so this isn't an age thing.

So many artists, Brother Ali, Immortal Technique, K-Rino, Z-Ro, Rakim, KRS-One, Emanon, Chris Rivers, Lowkey, Canibus, Kool Moe Dee, Blu, Fashawn, Saigon (posted his track with Big Daddy Kane the other day and hardly any replies), Last Emperor, anybody dope, no restrictions. I don't care if there's a dope dude from Holland or UK, or south or east or Midwest, if it's dope then that's cool. Kool G Rap, Public Enemy, Bizzy Bone, Atmosphere, Tragedy Khadafi, Poor Righteous Teachers, Wise Intelligent solo (who's released some very good music), it's really an endless list. I was listening to ill artists globally today, Chuck D has his own radio show and he's never amiss for content, it's just he pays attention to dope shyt with no restrictions. Anybody who's made contributions to Hip Hop should get respect and something back. And support some of the new cats. Not just certain people, but lots of people get some shine. The problem isn't a Rick Ross or a 50 Cent or whoever, that's all well and good but it's much better if there's a balance and keeps everybody happy, you can't be mad if there's diversity, but the sameness is boring and weak, the quality level is low, the real and quality is ignored often while the wack shyt put on a pedestal and given mad shine. A much better balance could be achieved.

Fashawn dope but those other nikkaz are in the past

No there not. Brother Ali doing very well, but most importantly making dope music. His last EP was excellent. This is what holds shyt back, people wanna be "trendy" instead of listening to dope shyt. Z-Ro on fire too. Chris Rivers is a new artist so impossible for him to be the "past". Lowkey is a young artist relatively still. If your making music currently your the present, and anyway you can still appreciate and celebrate the past in addition to the future.

on a serious note- we need to get rid of these bum ass posters.. seems like every forum is doing some cleaning up, except this one.. kinda weird..

yea. we should start at the top by getting rid of yo ass.

you talk about how the board fell off, but then you turn around and upp garbage ass "exposal" threads that have nothing to do with hip-hop.

how the hell are you a mod? you were a bum ass troll poster on sohh. and now youre a bum ass troll mod.

:pacspit:

Was The Booth ever really The Coli's strong suit? Always figured it was The Seum and TLR?

Yeah
If mods moved threads more often the booth would be better.

I'm sorry but gossip columns about jay and beyonce should be in the locker room.

Any gossip threads should be in the locker room.

All R&B talk should be moved as well.

A thread about a female hiphop personality or artist that posters want to fukk and post pictures about should be in jbo or the locker room.

It's really not that hard.

ALSO, mods need to do a better job of merging threads. I get tired of seeing the same thread 4 times but 4 diff people.

Interesting discussion between @hustlemania and @The Ruler 09
I think the mods in the booth have been doing an excellent job. Sure, the booth is overrun with shytty troll posters, but as I understand it, there's nothing the mods can do about that. Only the owners can ban posters.

Oh - I will say this - all the g unit threads should be merged except discussion threads about actual new music.

I do understand what @The Ruler 09 is saying about breaking hit records though - but I think the booth does a good job of that. The Killah Priest album was stickied for like 6 weeks last year. I feel that's an album that didn't exist outside of the Coli.

We can always do better though. Strive for perfection. Bit the mods have a tough job though, there's a plethora of posters who seem to be trying to drag the booth down - that's hard to combat.
