That’s not how the law works. If they fire him now or later they would still have to pay out the remainder of his contract unless it is for cause. By suspending him they’re just delaying the inevitable and are either (a) negotiating a buy out or (b) trying to come up with a for cause reason to terminate him. Regardless, given the damage they have done to him by letting this get public - he will be less inclined to accept a lesser pay out.
