The boxoffice reception of Christy, Smashing Machine, and Iron Claw really shows that niche biopics about combat sports/wrestlers just do not interest

Iron Claw starred Zach Efron and Jeremy Allen White...stars/star adjace - About the Von Erich wrestling family...they were acting their ass off...people didn't really care broadly and it opened to $4.8mm, finished at $45mm

Smashing Machine - about Mark Kerr...Stars the statistical biggest draw in hollywood, The Rock. His performance was acclaimed leading to the movie. Opened at $5.8mm, finished at $20mm.

Christy - Features a hugeset of tittiesstar that isn't proven boxoffice yet but is a big celebrity / star...about Christy Martin...similar to Smashing Machine it seems...this just opened to $1.3mm...

Do producers not realize this model does not work anymore? The biopic is already borderline dead in theaters...Deliver Me From Nowhere is a critical meh, and is performing 'fine' at best. And people love Springsteen...but about boxers/mma fighters/wrestling families that are really niche....

Tho im surprised iron claw made more money than all. Von erichs were non entities in my side of the country. Glorified indy wrestling movie really.

Rocks was just for acting props. Never thought itd make money.

These type of biopics should premiere at film festivals, then get sold to streaming. Very few will pay $15 to watch these films unless the athlete is a tier 1 celebrity like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Larry Bird, Bobby Orr,.... OJ Simpson

those are fictional and Creed was established for years and all 3 are exceptional...other than sport theres nothing in common with these. These films were bopics about niche combat sport/entertainment folks and didn't hit because of it.

The Iron Claw might as well be fictional since most of the people that saw or heard of that movie had never heard of the Von Erichs.
