I will say BO2's maps probably lent to this general trend. What's the point of wracking your brains over tactics when every map's small and has very short lines of sight. You generally put yourself at a disadvantage the moment you don't use an SMG (or arguably a shotgun), so of course, everyone ends up running and gunning with SMGs and shotgun

Mw2 was too easy and all the guns were good. Way too easy to hey streaks. Bo2 was bad because of the connection problem. The problem is scorestreaks. They brought this in so people would play obj...cool right? Wrong a nikka can cap two flags get one kill and have all their streaks. Cod has always been about getting killstreaks though. Competitive play ain't pop off until ghost. Now EVERYONE is Damn doing mlg and esports. The problem with AW is the dumb ass jumping once people got used to that it's gonna be hard to go back to regular movements. Which is why I think cod is doing too much by having three whole companies making pretty much the same game.
Competitive play popped off in BO2, Ghost hurt competitive gaming more than it helped, same for AW. I'd actually point more towards the actual growth of popularity of players than the actual game.

There needs to be a shooter that is huge in scope, like 500+ players per side, sacrifice graphics and make the map huge with persistent ground / resource battles being the point. You want airsupport take over the airfield, you want more ammunition, take over the ammo storage facilites, a big map with air support & vehicles (manned by players) and all sorts of shyt will naturally lend itself to tactics. These companies been making the same fukking game over and over again now, I tried the Hardline demo and that shyt was pure sleep inducing, and I been hated COD for the lack of tactics that take place.
The closest game to that is Planetside 2.

Its like halo style gameplay if you ask me which i can only take in small doses.

plz don't disrespect halo by comparing it to the filth that is call of duty...games where players get perks to help them become better players instead of using their natural ability to become better in areas they suck at....halo 1 alone has more depth and requires more tactics than any console shooter out there...

peep these halo 1 videos regarding 2v2 gameplay (the best way to play it).

1st. important glitches



2nd - spawns to get you acclimated with the map to understand the 3rd video



3rd. important grenade tricks. Only the first 4:30 apply for the point i'm trying to make with this one map.



4th. Full match with commentary



COD & BF don't offer this kind of depth and skill in a shooter. I understand you can't compare arena shooters (halo) to military shooters (cod/bf), but i'm just trying to enlighten you in regards to your whole run n gun twitch argument you tried to include halo in...because only fools play the game that way and if you do (especially in halo 1) you're food. I'm not surprised cod/bf is more liked around these parts than halo, they are a lot easier to succeed in for various reasons.

I miss old school shooters. No killstreaks or shyt like that, just a blade, pistol, and a main carry
healthpacks and damage boosters
double jump and shyt
no rewards for dying special or whatever, just top kills gets to brag
i did love the commando pro perk on cod tho
gliding forwards to shank brehs, zero fukks given about bullets
the pace of shooters these days is just too damn quick. you turn a corner and see a breh he'll jump into prone or crouch and somehow hit your fukking head everytime

I personally still dont see the skill in cod and probably never will because those games make the gun more important than the person holding it. And thats goofy to me. Its basically saying youre better than me because of a gun and not because youre actually better than me. Same reason i cant get behind Destiny. If you want more tactics, put less emphasis on the guns.

I personally enjoy competitive halo for this very reason. No perks, no modifiers, no killstreaks. If your gun game weak then you will be exposed.

This thread is nostalgia driven anyway, and if you wanna go back to the way it was, then you focus on making the games built around being good instead gimmicky nonsense. The tactics and setups n such will fall in place like they usually do. imo
