All comes back to needing a different coach and appropriate depth. That's all that it is.

BINGO.....took long enough to get to the real answer.

You dont need to trade KAT necessarily or tinker with the roster or make major changes i think a new coach unlocks some of the issues....
A new coach that preaches ball movement and 5 seconds will unlock some of the halfcourt blues...

We're not getting a new coach this offseason even if the Knicks get blown out at MSG tomorrow.

We need new minds to assist or guide Thibs, and he has no choice but to become comfortable with a revised approach in some areas.

For example, wasn't Rick Carlisle considered a stubborn, anything but run n gun coach years ago?

Was listening to Bill Simmons podcast last night after the game, he had Zach Lowe on... apparently KAT is also extension eligible this offseason

He's gonna be making 60+M AAV soon

I doubt he’s getting that extension early.

Why are you assuming the Knicks have to trade him to a “contender”. There are multiple teams that would trade a haul for a star that has gone to the conference finals twice when they are either a treadmill or lottery team.

Nobody is trading a haul for KAT lol. The Timberwolves making it to the conference finals again without him show’s he’s very replaceable.

Elaborate.
The issue with Donovan and Brunson was they were a defensive liability. Plain and simple and what Mitchell makes would make it impossible to build a real team around him.

Now look at the Cavs with Garland and Mitchell and they keep trying to stagger Mobley and Allen when low key they need to trade one of them.

there isn't a way to get depth without trading KAT. Also Trading KAT probably takes care of the defensive issues. You can hide Brunson and even bench him alone for spurts to shore up the defense. You can’t bench both Brunson and KAT for spurts and I would argue a defensive issue at center is worse than one at PG.

KAT makes so much you could in theory get 3 - 4 quality players for him and still not be a tax team.

Spacing is gold in today's NBA.

You don't just trade away the best spacing big man in the league like that. You won't be able to replace what he provides because there's not a better player out there that a team will give up for him. Y'all have looked and performed at your best in this series with him anchoring the offense, so I don't know why y'all have come to a conclusion that getting rid of him somehow solves whatever problems you have.

He’s a massive liability defensively. You can’t have two starting defensive liabilities (Brunson and KAT) and expect to win the chip.

I think the best way forward is just figuring out how to best stagger Brunson and Towns minutes on the court. You can hide one liability defensively on the court. It's really difficult to hide two at the same time.

You need a stronger bench to be able to do that.

Nah you can have 2 bad defenders flanked with 3 really good ones. It’s why the Kat - hart minutes work with 3 good defenders with them. Thibs views Josh as non negotiable so now you have 3 bad defenders on the court at the same time.
Probably win the game if you replaced all Josh minutes with delon wright, hilariously enough.

Somebody will trade a haul for a healthy KAT. I brought up Donovan Mitchell earlier and it’s the same math. A team is going to see KAT and if they have enough assets bet they can build around him, and low-key they would have a better chance to do it than the Cavs had with Mitchell.

He’s a known playoff producer and on the all NBA team. He is going to get a haul. His value has only gone up since he got here.
