I get the overall message of budget and oversave vs overspend, but a lot of this depicts a fairly privileged class to begin with, for one.

I'm the first to agree with financial awareness and strategy, I spend way more than that though, and it probably hurts me in some regard, fiscally.

But, quality of life is important, so is sustainability, on the other end of that spectrum. There has to be a balance.

To be fair, you make $100k in most moderately-sized cities outside of California, the numbers aren't *too* far off.
The internet, phone bill, and house cleaner costs are insanely off, as is transportation, and the lack of student loan repayments.
Not counting extreme cases like the cac the article is based off of, and you could find something similar.

Looking at rent in Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Houston, Chicago, Philly. etc.

Fair point actually. I know brehs hitting 100k at 26 in the DC paying like 700 for rent, but they don't live in DC proper. About 10-15 mins out of the city.

and outside of maybe Chicago, none of those are places where you’re likely to see a 25 yr old making 100k. Sure people make $100k in those places and may have similar expenses, but at 35, not 25

$700 where? And how many roommates? I lived in the dc area in 08-10 and even then you wanted renting out nothing within a 15 mike radius of dc proper for less than $900 (maybe $800’s for a cheap studi)

He's got a 700 Efficiency close to the Greenbelt metro. Like 5-6 stops from Howard Shaw.

I saw an Efficiency for 800 in College Park about 10 mins walk from the UMD metro station. UMD is 3 stops from DC proper.

There are deals out here you just gotta hunt.

There's a yuppie population in all of those cities. Bankers, PE and HF guys, corporate lawyers, consultants, engineers, entrepreneurs.
Wouldn't say they're the majority, but they do constitute a healthy population in all of those places.

Eh... na. Guessing he in nyc cause of the 130 dollar metro..

I mean cool if u wanna be making 100k living wit 3-4 people you dont know.

But i spent more than that living on my own and i made a lot less. Its attainable but good luck finding everytime to suit ya needs. Most people have to change everything when they move to nyc.

He got no whip. Which means he prolly in manhattan bk or closeup queens/bo. Long island out. Staten island out. Jersey out. He basically gotta stay on top of manhattan to pull that off. Or add another 1000 a month for a car insuranc and parking.

I never got to live like that but i know its easier for city people than people moving into a city.

615 donations? Is that to save him from paying high taxes. I wouodnt even know where to start there idk finance like that. 8k a year?

Yeah but @dora_da_destroyer is right. In those cities they don't make that at 25. Though they make more than someone in SF or NYC based on COL. So that's a wash.
